Has anybody ventured into any of the "four-panel" manga titles out there? I know there probably isn't a lot of these available outside of Japan, but I'm pretty sure there are a few available if one looked deep within the manga shelves.

The Azumanga Daioh one was a blast since it was my first time reading manga in four panels. I was a little shocked at the format when I first read it (I never read manga in a newspaper format before). But the gags seem to flow much better in that manga because of that format.

And since this title is just being released stateside, I am about to get into Sunshine Sketch, after having enjoyed a few episodes of the anime.

The only four-panel manga I've ever read was Lucky Star, but I loved it to pieces. The style of storytelling (I guess, if you can call it that) is definitely different - certainly not what I'm used to - but like you said, the gags within this four-panel manga flowed better (actually, I don't think some of them would work at all if it weren't for their format).

Man, I can't wait till I get my first copy of Sunshine Sketch I already have it preorded from amazon. Yuno is so moe~

Another good "highschool girl's everyday life" type of 4koma manga is Sketchbook. It just got picked up by a scanlating group...before there were just some Anonymous translations from some 4channer. It has a lot of paralells with Sunshine Sketch...highschool cast, immature teacher, focus on arts, a really good slice-of-life anime adaptions, etc. Also, Sora is so moe~

I have read Azumanga Daioh, and funny that this should be mentioned right now because currently I am in the process of reading Lucky Star. Having read through the first couple of "chapters," I can definetly see how the first couple of episodes of the anime was adapted pretty much 99% from the manga. Doesn't matter, the girls are cute.

I really like the 4-panel comic "Kemono to Chat" about a girl who has the ability to understand the language of cats. It's really funny Anime hyper We get to learn all the reasons behind the weird and random things cats do. I wish someone would translate it, because it's a great series Very Happy

Aw, that manga sounds really cute.

My favorite manga is Azumanga Daioh, which is probably the best-known 4-koma/panel over in the U.S. I love the format because it's easy to read and the gags really do well. And I find that 4-koma are also easy to pick up and read again and again. I've been wanting to read the manga Sketchbook for a while now; I really enjoy the slice of life genre.

I recently picked up Azumanga Daioh volume 1. Sakaki is so cute. ^-^ Ever since I've wanted Yotsuba! volume 1, but my bookstore is the slowest place ever... -_-'

For some reason, 4-koma are really hard for me to read. I do fine with short chapters, but it's really intimidating to read a whole manga full of that for some reason. Azumanga Daioh is the only one I've read, though I'd like to get around to reading Lucky Star and others some time.

Even though I read them slowly, I love them for their cute humor. Smile

I really hope Lucky Star gets licensed soon, I'm dying to read that. Azumanga is one of my favorite all time manga, and I just love how you can revisit it over and over.
Just finished reading Sunshine Sketch volume 1, and I loved it. It reminded me a lot of Azumanga Daioh. Also released by Yen Press, Shoulder a Coffin Kuro came out about a month ago. I just got it today, but haven't read it yet.

Azumanga is the only manga strip that I've really grown to love (due in large part to its character development). The cultural gap is large enough when dealing with comedy series, and the strip format further amplifies that.

I enjoyed it pretty well. I did notice that it's not easy just to sit down and read all the way through it, but if you break it up into chunks it works a lot better. Decent humor and interesting story, it just takes time to develop.

ANN's review didn't treat it too kindly, but as the reviewer mentioned it's probably not for everyone; either you really like it or just don't.

And Azumanga Daioh is just awesome. I'm interested in checking out Sunshine Sketch, thanks for mentioning it. I hadn't realized that Hidamari Sketch was based on it.

Localized names can be kind of confusing. Well, not localized per se, but translated. I did noticed that for Yen Press's release of the Higurashi manga, they've kept with Geneon's titling, but are calling it "HIGURASHI When they cry." So people don't get confused searching for it on rightstuff or amazon or what have you, ya know.

The only one I've read was the Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker one. That was great, in parts. I love the one where Link gets the boomerang.

So did anyone else read Yen Press's release of Hidamari / Sunshine Sketch v1 and notice that on the back it was rated Teen for "Language and Violence?"

Language and...Violence? lol wut. Is this some sort of wacky misprint?
