Posted a similar top in anime section. I wanted to read this series since the anime was amazing.
I'm on 15 after 2 days, but I can pretty much proclaim this the best slice of life manga I have ever read (granted my exposure to slice of life/romance shoujo manga isn't too heavy). I don't know how I managed to miss this the first time around. Must have been under some impressively large rock.
Honestly I'm not sure why I'm making this topic right now as I haven't finished, and plan to write a bit more about it once I do. I guess I just want to let my appreciation for something wonderful be known.
Sorry for wasting space, lock it if necessary.
ps.- I don't know if recommendation is also banned in manga section, but if not, I'd like to request similar titles.

Kare Kano and Fruits Basket were my gateway "drugs" into manga. Actually, I guess the non-endings of both of the animes were the real reason for my entry into a manga addiction. I've been an avid reader of sci-fi and fantasy from a very young age and an anime fan from my early or mid-teens. I've only become a manga fan within the last year or so because of Kare Kano and Fruits Basket.
As far as Kare Kano goes, I've read through the 7th tankouban (chapter 32) which I believe is near the end of the anime. I've held off on reading more to catch up on some other reading, but am just about ready to dive back into it.
Another manga I have been reading that reminds me a lot of Kare Kano is Lovely Complex (Love Com) and I am completely addicted, maybe more than Kare Kano. It is more comedic, but there are definitely some heart wrenching moments.
Another, though to a lesser degree is Hot Gimmick, which I picked up on a whim, also more of a situation/romantic comedy. At least so far... I've only read the first tankouban, but I'm very much looking forward to more. These all seem to fall into a kind of romantic comedy genre, and the target demographic is probably late teen girls. But I don't care, I end up reading far too late into the night and end up with puffy, dark ringed eyes at work the next day.

Umm...I like Kare Kano, but I think books with 15 or more volumes should not have the main characters be madly in love with each other from book 1-5. I got bored after 3 volumes. I like shorter manga, like Full Moon, or Imadoki. If it's a long series, they should wait until at least halfway through the series. Fushigi Yugi also made the mistake of rushing into things.

One of the best shoujo manga series out there, hands down. I liked the anime and was eager to find out the rest of the story in the manga, and, again, I was pleasantly surprised it actually enhanced its quality inspite the happy-ish end. Interestingly for a shoujo, most of the characters have their dark side and the way it is approach is relatively realistic and well done. Perhpas when you are finished we could talk about more (it seems to me better instead going on spoilers now).
Recommendations:
Manga: Mekakushi no Kuni, Othello, Junni Kokuki (it's one of the best fantasies, but it's also shoujo), Salad Days, Anatolia Story, Kanata Kara, and one seinen series you might enjoy, The Hating Girl. Lovely Complex is also an excellent choice.
Manhwa (Korean comics): They Too Love, You're So Cool, Bride of the Water God, Kiss Me, Kill Me (what the hec, Goong was good fun for me).
