Finished the last disc of Kamichu! recently and while the series has its flaws, it is one of my favorite titles this year.
I think the artistry and animation were gorgeous and I enjoyed the deliberate, slow pacing to the series. I think it added to the small-town atmosphere. Also, I think the music is excellent. The composer came up with a unique, enjoyable sound for the show. (I’m listening to the OST as I write this.)
I agree with the reviewers who said the Martian and the cat fight episodes felt out of place in the series. But, I still think both played their part in the story. The Martian episode introduced Yurie to the prime minister, which allowed her to better research the Yamato in that episode. The cat fight episode allowed Tama’s character to be further developed.
I think the Christmas and New Year’s episodes were the low point of the series. It seemed like the series creators felt obligated to make them. With Yurie being a god and New Year’s being the busiest time of the year for shrines, I suppose it would be difficult to just omit that one.
The seiyuu fit their roles nicely, I thought. I enjoyed their performances so much, I haven’t watched the dub yet.
The insert in this final disc says the creators don’t plan a sequel. Since the encyclopedia says the manga is still being published, I hope they change their minds. I wouldn’t mind seeing more.
Overall, I’d rate the series “excellent.”

I also thought this show was amazing on a lot of levels. It sounds odd, but I would have rated the show much better if the martian episode in particular was left out. Perhaps as high as a 96 (which is masterpiece in my book). As it is, I gave it a 94 and an excellent. The animation was excellent, the story was... interesting, if slow, the slife was done very very well, the voice acting was superb, and the soundtrack was absolutely perfect. BY FAR the best soundtrack I've heard since Hack Sign. I actually just ordered the art box last night finally from righstuf I've been meaning to get it for a while, and $15 was just way too good to pass up on something that never seems to go on sale for more than $5-10 off retail.

This is one series that deserves to have a second season!
It always amazes me how many good series only have ten to thirteen episodes, only one season, or both.
When you find a series you really like, and the characters grow on you, it is really hard when the show ends!

Finished this anime yesterday after buying it last year when I heard about Geneon's de facto closure. I honestly wish more anime were styled like this (and Azumanga Daioh and NieA_7); just create a cast of normal characters, and let them bounce off each other and what happens in life. (Granted, being a goddess isn't normal, but Yurie is otherwise a normal middle-schooler.) Forget killer notebooks and eyes-you-must-obey, this is why I watch anime.

Everything piles up into a relaxing view. Just as musashi1600 said, this anime is a great getaway from all those brain-twisting animes. After a hard day at school/work, the last thing you would want to do is to watch action-packed stuff that adds more stress to your life.
A calm atmosphere, plain style with great animation, and loveable characters. That's the merit of this anime, the ability to soothe your mind.
