Don't be shy. Tell us what you really think!
I especially loved the line ...

I had pretty much the exact same experience...when I saw Toola struggling to carry a bucket of water up the mountain shortly after she was awakened...am I really supposed to think this is a better way of life?
I find this kind of sentimentality for a primitive way of life quite offensive, really. It's very dishonest and shallow. I'd like to see the writers cheerfully hauling water a mile uphill just to be able to drink, cook or bathe.
I blame Nausicca.

I actually liked this ^^; It wasn't for it's story or anything I really like the whole complex of man versus nature and Nausicca just bored the living day lights out of me so I must be weird ...
Plus i thought it copy some scenes too. I thought the scene where he loses control over his arm and it becomes a mutant thing looked kinda like Akira
Also those "TOOLA!"s were REALLY annoying ...

Wow... That's a harsh review. I enjoyed Origin quite a bit. No, it's not the best anime film ever made, but it's certainly not worthy of this scathing review.

This film was nominated for best film at the 30th Annual Annecy International Animation Film Festival so to be honest I'd take that review with quite the large grain of salt.

I enjoyed Origin for what it was. After watching it I didn't get any smarter, but it didn't make me stupid either. I didn't pay $40 for it though, I got the original release on sale at HMV for $15.

Although the film isn't as craftily made as a Miyazaki film it really was much better than something like Green Legend Ran which it also reminded me of.
There has been a lack of features not based off a television series being released in the last couple years with features being monopolized by Makoto Shinkai, Satoshi Kon, and Miyazaki. Origin ranks a tad bit higher than Blade of the Phantom Master on my list of recently released films. I think it is becoming increasingly harder to tell a story in under two hours as television (especially in the States) has become so much more serialized compared to the episodic format and even films are being more commonly mapped out as a series of movies.
I might have even considered buying the special edition if Funimation released it back when the standard edition came out. Although I enjoyed it I wouldn't find it worth double dipping for.

Yes. The movie's visuals are lovely. Honestly, the only reason I rented this movie was because Kouji Ogata did the character designs.
But what hurt this movie was its poor plotting and pacing. If the story had been stretched across a six or thirteen part OVA, then I think I may have enjoyed it more and not have been annoyed by so many things that happen in the film.

I'll 2nd that, though I'm sure a Blu-ray edition should be coming up sometime in the near-ish future. 1080p might warrent another dip
The movie itself wasn't that bad. Sure the story was a contrived piece of rubbish but it was innocuous enough, or at least it was up to the walking volcano. The visuals are still mighty impressive and the Kokia theme songs were great.
I will agree with the review that the dub was flatter than the beer I left open all night. Since it's a fairly decent title for younger kids I would have liked to have had a decent dub.

I actually liked the title.
And who really buys anything at MSRP these days? Just wait for a sale and buy it.
This should look really wonderful on Blu-ray.

Wow, that was harsh. I'm sorry, but I liked Origin. >.>; It wasn't a masterpiece of storytelling or anything, and I bought the regular version instead of the new $40 version, but jeez. I don't think it deserves that review. o_O
By your logic, Nausicaa must also suck, because their lives are centered around soothing bugs (instead of sentient trees) and was also pretty predictable - OH, Nausicaa saved the day, what a shocker! >.>;
And anyhow, that's what humans get for effing up the planet, man. Payback's just a B.

By my logic Nausicaa is good because it's a masterpiece crafted by a genius and Origin is garbage because it's awful and hacky.

Yep, payback was definitely a B in that story.
