Saw this on the Rightstuf website the other day...

New From Tokyopop: Anime Novels!
Great news! You know how a lot of anime stories actually began with print novels (not graphic novels, but actual paperback books)? Well, as an established manga publisher, Tokyopop has taken the next big step and will now be releasing anime novels in the US! Here's a list of what they've announced so far:

Clamp School Case Files
Karma Club: Attack of the Green Goo
Slayers

Yes, that's right, the Slayers novels will now be published in English! We'll keep you posted when release dates are announced - so in the meantime, get ready to read!

Anyone know anything about the novels - that Slayers one looks very tempting, but I know next to nothing about the orginal novels.

Edit - Found the Tokyopop press release

I'm not sure what to think. These aren't true novels. They are 'Manga novels'...whatever that means (note that Slayers lists the two 'authors'; one of which is the actual story writer, while the other is the artist). But in specific reference to Slayers, it doesn't even state which series of slayers it is. I do believe that their are several series of Slayers 'novels'.

Hmm... I'm wondering if Scrapped Princess and Matantei Loki would fall under this because they each have a novel series. Scrapped Princess I think is originally the novel though...

It's kinda out there, but I really hope with all these novel things popping up, someone will get Junni Kokki. And Boogiepop!

My understanding of the Slayers series is that it originaly started as a short-story series, then as a series of novels, then manga then anime. So if the novels are the original novels that I think they are then we might be able to get some more of the Slayers backstory.

Also, I'm hoping that someone picks up Kino's Journey - but I guess it would depend on how well the anime does.

At the very least, I hope that they are successful. It's always nice to get everything from franchise possible. And with several novels out there, we can only hope for more of the things we'd like to see. Considering ADV has Full Metal Panic and Maburaho, the novels coming out for those certainly wouldn't hurt any. Smile

Littlegreenwolf, you are correct about Scrapped Princess. Its original incarnation was a novel. And I'd really like to check that one out too.
