Has anyone seen this Korean animation?

What did you thought of it?

Personally it's a movie I think was amazing. The story might not have been the best, but the animation and music more than made up for it.

Just wondered if anyone had seen it:)

EDIT:

try listening to the theme. Its really sci-fi epic: http://www.yougey.com/puri/oto/wdaays.mp3

and try and watch the awesome awesome trailer: http://www.commeaucinema.com/bandeannonces/wonderfuldays/wmp/wonderfuldays.wmv

Apparently its the most expenssive korean movie ever made. It costed 11 million to make. While it didn't had a lot of acclaim it did got recognition and won awards at many european film festivals. It was also Oscar nominated for best animation if im not mistaken.

I saw it a while ago, so I don't remember much about it. I remember I liked it then. I think I need to see it again.

I liked the blending of cel-animation, CG, and live-action(props). I didn't realize there was live-action stuff in there until I took a closer look.

Agreed.

I think it is more beautiful than Appleseed, GITS2 and FF7:AC.

But maybe thats just me.Wink

I saw Wonder Days about 2 years ago.

Animation-wise was fantastic. Same with the designs.
Storywise was so-so as the Romeo & Juliet plot line for where you have 2 lovebirds on other sides that love each other has been done to death.

I know that it's getting release in the west under the name of Sky Blue (shudder).

Over all, Wonderful Days is a worthy addition on an anime collection.

I saw it in a small art-house theatre about a year ago. It was under the name of Sky Blue though. Anyways, I thought it was amazing. It was not like other CG animated films (where the visuals are good but everthing else is incredibly boring.) I'm not so sure about this, but I'm kind of under the impression that this was intended to be more of an experimental film, rather than a great story put on screen. That's probably why the plot was just another rip-off of Romeo an Juliet. But its still a great movie.

wow, im glad im not the only one who thought it was great<.<

But why did it flop so bad? I heard a lot of asians are racist toward Korea, because of what is happening in north korea? Im not to sure though.

But I heard it was the other way around too. That South Korea banned "Grave of the fireflies" because it promoted Japan as victims in WW2.

I thought that was crazy though!

I believe the Sky Blue version is edited or changed some how. Not sure how, though.

I recently saw the HDTV version in 720p [Audio: South Korean | Subs: English | uncut] and it way visually quite impressive ^^

Here'e my rating:

Story: 5.5/10
The idea is not that bad but the film lacks the "wow"-factor and I got the impression that the story was just squeezed in right after the animations.

Animations: 9.0/10
The CG combined with the very butery and smooth animations of the people and vehicles is most likely the main reason to watch this movie. It could have been slighly more colourful but I think that's up to the taste of each individual.

Soundtrack: 7.0/10
It's alright in terms of the music played but the Korean voice actors seemed like they weren't really giving their best to voice the characters.

Characters: 6.0/10
There is hardly a development to be seen when looking at the characters and their names are just a laugh to be frank.

> Beginning: 8.5/10
Quite interesting opening with a very promising set. Highly impressive 3D effects made me want to see more of the film.
> Middle: 7.0
Nothing really amazing happens here, the fight between the refugees/outcasts and the special forces is decent but since te characters are acting in a very dull way, which is also probable due to the bad voice actors, the film coudn't pull me into the world of Sky Blue.
> Ending: 6.0/10
There was some repetitive action as well as some really long scenes that seemed to make the film longer but not qualitatively better.

Conclusion: 6.5/10

Sorry if I made some people with my short review but this is only my personla view. You could compare this film to let's say, "[2004] Ghost in the Shell II: Innocence", "[2001] Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" "[2007] Appleseed - Ex Machina" or "[2007] Vexille - The Isolation of Japan" when only intending to compare the visuals and animations.

I watched the R1 release last summer and had a few problems. The film never comes to a crescendo, the action doesn't really catch my eye and there doesn't seem to be a grasp of how to keep the viewer entertained. I've been meaning to re-watch this but that's what I thought when I saw it the first time. I thought some of the environmentalism stuff was a nice touch, if not unbelievably predictable. I don't think it's a "turd" as I recall Zac dubbing it in one of his Answerman columns but I think the film does more wrong than it does right. Still, it wasn't that bad.
