Feel free to post this on the News Page .
Tokyo gets a yen for Astro Boy Tokyo's Takadanobaba district will start using Astro Boy currency this week. The currency features the image of the famous anime hero, as part of local revitalisation efforts, community members say. The late Osamu Tezuka (1926-1989), who created the famous robot character, began publishing the manga series in 1952. The animated version was first broadcast in Japan in the 1960s and remains popular worldwide. In the series, Astro Boy (''Tetsuwan Atom'' in Japanese) is assembled on April 7, 2003, in the ''Science Ministry'' in Takadanobaba. Shops, organisations and Waseda University will use the currency for community revitalisation efforts, including volunteer and environmental activities. Astro Boy's strength was measured in horsepower and therefore 1 horsepower of the currency will be equivalent to 1 yen. The bills come in denominations of 10, 100 and 200 horsepower. The money can be used at about 40 stores along shopping streets in the Takadanobaba and Waseda districts and a shopping complex in front of JR Takadanobaba Station. For example, stores will deduct 10 horsepower if a customer carries a re-used shopping bag. yep i heard this as well on PCNE, well its an okay idea, from what I've heard, its like volunteering to help out and you get Astro money instead of real money which is as good as real money on that street. quite good
And its only crazy enough to work in japan, for the rest of the world, you'll need a Disneyland for it to work. |
