Policemen were pretty easy on street performers there for the past several years, occasionally scolding them if they were to run amok. The "sexy idol" street performer is already out of jail, but what ended the party were mass media and fear of exposure that they carry with them. Many otaku and people working in the otaku industry fear it for obvious social reasons.

You know, this is actually a huge disappointment to me. I really enjoyed the Anything Goes Sunday atmosphere. Half of what made Akiba so amusing were all the cosplayers, singers, cameramen, fanboys and general weirdos. There is nothing quite like walking through Akiba as a sea of public nuisance suddenly swarms around you in a massive swell of impromptu idiocy.
Then again, maybe it was getting to be a bit much... Last edited by daxomni on Thu May 08, 2008 7:29 am; edited 1 time in total |

Agreed. Hopefully things'll calm down after a while, and more innocuous performances will begin to return. One less reason to visit Tokyo, otherwise :p. |

I can kind of understand why they did it, but then the same guys are also marching around with signs telling people not to ride their bikes. Each time I walk past and see them I just shake my head.
