What do you think are some epic series? I think one epic series would have to be samurai 7. I think they did an awesome job of translating the novel into anime. Its starts out slow but after episode 3 has mini battles up until episode 13 were it completely makes up for any bad episode which really there were none. Very Happy

I love the way the characters evolve-mosly katsushiro and kikuchiyo. I like how katsushiro had in the beggining never took a life and then in episode fourteen spoiler[went on like a killing spree].

As far as I know, epic anime series are anime that has 50+ episodes, as for its other meaning I found it is classic or a blockbuster.
Tell me if I'm wrong with this, I didn't quite get what's the real meaning when it comes to epic to anime or I'm just confused because of the homonyms.

I should say the likes of Hayao Miyazaki and his' works are epic, none can ever overcome his opus.

Mmm...define epic.

Does epic mean "legendary, complex, and sweeping?"

Or does epic mean "fantasy-based, complicated, long-lived, and immensely popular?"

'Cause you got two different answers, and the only bridge that crosses both is Fullmetal Alchemist and Miyazaki's works.

Someone is going to have to mention Legend of the Galactic Heroes. 110 episodes, the largest voice cast ever and an incredible scope.

Your answer-epic would be anything you either thought changed the anime world, was something hugely popular or just something you thought was cool or put together nicely.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann pretty much falls into my definition of epic. It has strong characters who influence the whole world (And battles. Not to forget them.) - and that over a rather long period of time.

To me if I were to say something was epic I would have to go with Baki the Grappler. It definitely has great art and a pretty cool plot.

i have to agree with you there, the whole time while i was watching the series i was thinking of how epic it was. i cant wait for the DVD release. Code Geass was pretty epic too in my opinion. i recently watched it a few weeks ago and though the series was amazing. and FullMetal Alchemist considering its one of my favorite anime series of all time.

- No common ground on the meaning of the word "epic"

For reference, thefreedictionary.com wrote:
ep·ic
n.
1. An extended narrative poem in elevated or dignified language, celebrating the feats of a legendary or traditional hero.
2. A literary or dramatic composition that resembles an extended narrative poem celebrating heroic feats.
3. A series of events considered appropriate to an epic: the epic of the Old West.
adj.
1. Of, constituting, having to do with, or suggestive of a literary epic: an epic poem.
2. Surpassing the usual or ordinary, particularly in scope or size: "A vast musical panorama . . . it requires an epic musical understanding to do it justice" Tim Page.
3. Heroic and impressive in quality: "Here in the courtroom . . . there was more of that epic atmosphere, the extra amperage of a special moment" Scott Turow.
(From Latin epicus, from Greek epikos, from epos, word, song; see wekw- in Indo-European roots.)

Nobody ever means the first sense any more. These days, most people wouldn't recognize epic poetry if it bit them on their iambic pentameter.
