AnimeNation and RightStuf.com both list it as only having English as an available spoken language. Does this mean it's dub-only?

I don't have the series but seeing as how two different sites say Only English, I'd have to say its only English. The popularity of Shin-Chan came because of the dub here in the states came because of the dub so it's very plausible it only has an English track. |

If on the title listing it has a (D) next to it instead of hybrid, then it's going to be English dub only.
Tips for what languages the DVDs at Rightstuf are in: (D)= English dub only (Hybrid)= English and Japanese dub (Sub)= Japanese dub with English subtitles Last edited by fighterholic on Thu Apr 10, 2008 11:41 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Considering that some of the vignettes in Funi's dub were rewritten to the point where their plots are completely different than in the original Japanese, not to mention the changes to the characters (i.e. Georgie's young-Republicanism, and the fact that Penny's dad was a workaholic businessman in the original, instead of an abusive boozer ), it'd be rather awkward to include the original dialogue alongside the new punched-up script. Plus, from what I understand, the Japanese version of Shin-chan relies so heavily on domestic pop cultural references and verbal puns, even watching it subtitled wouldn't do you much good without flooding the screen with notes.

There was a topic about this on animenation, they came to the conclusion it was a dub only release. Speaking of which is this show any good, I have been thinking about having a pointless comedy to add to my collection for when I get tired of taking anime seriously, but looking at the episode count I think its safe to say funimation will never fully release this, they will keep putting it out till people get to tired of it or it gets to expensive to sell and then stop.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I find it to be utterly hilarious. The writing team does a great job at inserting little one-liners and sarcasm all over the place, and the original material itself is pretty zany most of the time. As for "fully releasing" it, it's not really that simple, since Shin-chan doesn't have "episodes" in the traditional sense of the word to begin with. Each episode block is divided into a few 5-to-7-minute vignettes, which often don't have any direct plot correspondence at all between them. I seem to remember reading that FUNimation was given over 100 individual vignettes to start out with, and the order in which they're used in the dubbed version doesn't necessarily correspond with their original Japanese broadcast order in any way. There are occasions where all three our four vignettes in a single episode will follow the same plotline, and there's been one occasion where a plot was carried out over several consecutive episodes. I'd imagine FUNimation will release as much of the series as is practical, so long as it keeps making them money.

It's on adult swim Saturday night at midnight. You can check it out for free before you buy it. I think it's really funny. |

The Star Wars parody episode that aired last night was, without a doubt, one of the funniest things I've ever seen. FUNi's dub crew isn't holding anything back on this series.

And I take it you know this because you've worked there yourself? |

fighter: No, I know, because I've seen them screw up release dates and specs for a while now.

This I don't think can blamed on them though. That would be the error of the distributor if they have submitted something to be what it's not. And I quote shawnek:
