I have to say, it doesn't look half bad! I know the pic probably doesn't represent what all of the animation will look like, but so far my hopes have been lifted.

Looks good, but slightly toned down on its edginess. I hope it's not gonna be softened up for girls and kids like the Souten No Ken anime.

Whats so special about this picture? It doesn't look any different from any other action anime character designs. It honestly looks like the Ninja Scroll TV series. Also, obviously the show itself will look worse. Pictures are glorified.

Generic (like pretty much everything else) as expected, the main worry is the director and (lack of fluid) animation.

Huh? I for one am happy to see that the character design looks very much like the art of the manga. It does not look like Berserk, because Blade of the Immortal does not look like Berserk?
I don't see how this looks generic or would give anyone reason to complain and whine and be all negative. But people would complain about free cookies as well, I guess.
Of course clearer outlines and the use of colour will definitely make the anime look different than the manga. Anybody who ever expected otherwise is a moron. You either deal with the unavoidable differences and appreciate the anime for the worthy adaptation it will hopefully be, or you just stick with the manga.
But it's lame to whine in advance . If you are already convinced that it will be generic, then just ignore the anime. O_o
Am I honestly the only one who is thrilled that this anime is happening? I am sure Samura would insist that it stays close to the manga, the character design looks beautiful, the music will be done by Kou Otani so it will also be beautiful...
At the very least, it will make more people pick up the manga, and boost its sales.

No you're not alone. I totally agree with you. Shame the top of the page contains so much negative prejudice.

I'll reserve judgment until the series actually starts, but I don't see how this picture alone would give anyone an indication of what to expect.

I think those Hellgirl or Hellsing animators should've done this one.

If it is, you can count on uncut DVDs for all the splatter.

Bee Train adapting this series certainly doesn't bode well, and this image adds more fuel to the fire. It's easy to see that the designs are indeed derivative as far as action designs go.
Despite the bad vibes this show has already, it's still far too early to tell. I'll still be giving this series a look just to see for myself before making my final judgment. Still, I have a feeling that I'll run for the manga after seeing an episode or two of the anime.
I just hope that Bee Train doesn't decide to adapt Vagabond too at some point in the future.
