Recently I've been hunting for some old, good manga titles, and I realized that a lot of the manga ADV put out and later canceled was quite good. Also, the old titles are hard to find in bookstores and even most online shops. So, can anyone tell me why they canceled most of their titles and where I can find them. Thank you.

I don't know where you can find them, but I'm pretty sure the official reasoning was that they wanted stick with series they had the DVD release for, which doesn't explain why they never went back to Jinki: Extend when they released the anime... Confused

That can't be right ... I mean, they dropped Peacemaker [Kurogane] as well, and that was an ADV release. They even packaged DVD 1 with manga Vol. 1

To answer the OP ... The real reason is they bought too many licenses at the height of the 00's manga boom and then didn't have the resources to actually publish everything, so they dropped a ton of stuff. Now they're sticking to just Yotusba&, Gunslinger Girl, the Eva ripoff, and a few others.

Some of the more popular titles (Aqua/Aria, Tactics, Your and My Secret) have moved on to Tokyopop. Otherwise your only chance of finding them is if a bookstore has them way back in their old stock or something. A comic store might be better since those guys hoard everything.

All I know is what ANN reports:

Quote:
In 2005, ADV will release about 50 manga titles, down from 80 in 2004, and they will focus on titles for which they own both the anime and the manga license.

I have no idea why that would include Peacemaker.

All we can do is hope that it does. I hope that Newtype beig canned doesn't affect their printed media area. Yotsuba&! and Gunslinger Girl are amazing.

At this point, there is no reason to believe it won't come out eventually. It may be a while though, because volume 7 seems to be the most recent volume in Japan. For whatever reason, it seems that Japan doesn't like to allow the U.S. version to come out until it has already been out in Japan for a while. I think volume 12 of Trigun Maximum had been out in Japan for over a year before it came out here.

Well, its hardly the first time I've been wrong on this kind of thing. I'm not worried quite yet though. They may have just licensed the next three volumes (4-6) and are now negotiating for the next few. Perhaps they'll spread out the next two a bit more after releasing a few close together. If we don't see or hear anything in a couple of months, then I'll get worried.
