I’m trying to determine the viewing order for Slayers. What I’ve come up with is this.
Slayers Excellent OVA
Slayers The Motion Picture
Slayers Special OVA
Slayers
Slayers Return
Slayers Great
Slayers Gorgeous
Slayers Next
Slayers Try
Slayers Premium
What I’m confused about is the Excellent OVA entry in the encyclopedia says that it’s the sequel of the Special OVA and the prequel of Slayers The Motion Picture, but the Special OVA entry in the encyclopedia says that it’s the sequel of Slayers The Motion Picture.

Slayers eh? well with your confusion, i say jsut keep up with your viewing order, because slayers special OAV is sequel to Slayers Gorgoues (Movie), not the sequel of the Motion Picture

Unless I'm mistaken the OVA's, and movie, are all after the 3 tv seasons. I think I'm right. I'll have to go get my entire Slayers set out now and check dates and get back to you. Been a while since I watched them.

Well, Slayers, Slayers NEXT, and Slayers Try. Those three, y'can watch in order. Anything else -- it really won' t matter.

This is a pretty accurate statement. The Slayers movies don't really have any continuity between them. I think they all take place before the TV series with the exception of the one where everybody except Lina is cursed into speaking that fish language.

That one would be Slayers Premium, which chronologically takes place between Slayers Next and Slayers Try. However, it was made several years after everything else in the franchise, and was meant as a final send-off and a as a symbolic farewell from the characters to the fans. So it should really be the last thing watched.
With regards to story timeline, the order is Slayers Excellent -> Book of Spells -> Movies 1-4 -> Slayers TV -> Slayers Next -> Slayers Premium -> Slayers Try. But watching them in the order they were released is also recommendable, because the original TV series gives a perfectly good introduction to Lina and the setting, and the events of the OVAs and movies don't have very much bearing on the TV series. Especially since Naga, a central figure in the OVAs & movies, doesn't appear in the TV series.
