When you watch an anime sometimes the story changes drastically...this is called a "plot twists."

Some plot twists are small and manageable...some of them make you crap your pants in shock. This one is about the latter.

What are in your opinion the most mind blowing plot twists out their?

I'll start

This is probably pretty Cliche but well in Mohoromatic maiden...
spoiler[
The happy go lucky most cuddly wuddly loved by every character...dies...for basically no reason. Sure it said it would happen eventually but you believe in your heart of hearts "SHE WILL SURVIVE" the n all the sudden "nope" she dies in a horrible fight...]

I haven't seen it in a bit so my facts may be a bit off but I do know that plot twist was EPIC in fact when the writer thought of it he must have been like this

So your turn!

To me, the most dramatic plot twist in recent memory would be in episode 30 of NANA, when spoiler[Hachi finds out she's pregnant.] It's not exactly an 'epic' story, but that plot twist actually made me say "Oh my God" when I accidentaly ruined it for myself. The episode was masterfully done, too; even though I knew what happened ahead of time, I still cried.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex had some pretty awesome plot twists as well. The first season concluded with the tear-inducing spoiler['the rest of the government vs. Section 9] maneuver, not to mention spoiler["Motoko got shot in the head and splattered all over the tarmac! WAIT, THAT WASN'T MOTOKO! PSYCH!"], which I totally didn't pick up the first time I watched it. Then we had the spoiler["Gohda's behind the plot of this entire main arc!"] twist in 2nd GIG. It's one of the most talky anime I've ever seen, but when it gets twisted, it gets twisted....And now I want to go watch SAC again.

EDIT: Forgot another major twist in the SAC universe: In Solid State Society when we find out that spoiler[the Puppeteer is actually a part of Motoko's subconscious], or whatever happened there. I still don't fully understand it, but that's probably just because it made my brain reel to begin with. spoiler[The part during the conversation with the Puppeteer where he asks who else has the same sense of extreme justice and everything else, and then his prosthetic's face begins to shift between characters (Aramaki, Togusa, Batou, Aoi, Kuze) and finally ends up as Motoko's own face] was a fantastic way of illustrating it.

That is not a plot twist. spoiler[The possibility of her dying was there from the beginning. In fact, it was an inevitability. From the very first episode, she was destined to die by the end. And there was a reason, both for her destined death and how it actually happens.]

The most epic plot twist in recent memory, for me, was Code Geass. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about and if you haven't, it would be a disservice to provide you with it. Code Geass is far from perfect and suffers from a number of issues. Well written it is not. But in this one moment, it was beautifully epic.

One particular plot twist that I had on my mind is from Code Geass, it was Episode 22: Bloodstained Euphie. spoiler[This was where Lelouch's Geass had activated on its own infront of Euphie. At that same time Lelouch had made a joke about killing the Elevens, but with the work of the Geass it had turned into an order. Euphie easily followed the order without any hesitation and command the nearby pilots of Britannia's Knightmare frames to kill all the Elevens. And so the pilots followed their princess' orders and had massacred all those Elevens who thought that their lives in a "New Japan" would be better. This had created greater conflict between the Elevens and Britannia. Then this was followed up by the next episode, Lelouch had went ahead and shot Euphie. ] Well that was the legist of it without going into too much detail. There were many plot twists throughout Code Geass but this was the more memorable one for me.

I've seen a lot of anime in my day, but the most memorable plot twist for me was one that came early on in my anime watching, the first time I saw something in an anime that truly shocked me.

At the end of the first season of Magic Knight Rayearth, when spoiler[the girls found out that instead of saving Princess Emeraude as they had been told from the beginning, they were supposed to kill her.] The series seemed so straight forward with its "save the princess, save the world" plot-line that I was totally not expecting it to turn out any other way.

Death Note when Light spoiler[killed L there is not many anime when the villain won, what a pity it didn't end at this point.]

Higurashi no Naku Koroni the arc Meakashi-hen when it is revealed that spoiler[it was Shion who went insane.]

Code Geass Obviously I mean the episodes when Euphemia spoiler[was controlled by Lelouch's Geass and killed the Elevens and the moment when Lelouch killed her Twisted Evil ]

Very Happy

I agree. Truth be told, I was hardly interested in watching Code Geass until that episode. It was a stupid joke, and yet it triggered something really major.

Code Geass was defintely the biggest plot twist I have seen in quite a while. I damn near fell of the couch when it happened.

This for me is the epitome of epic plot twist in an anime (and I was about to bring it up myself if you hadn't.) I believe MKR was only my second anime after Sailor Moon (not including Voltron and Star Sheriffs from the mid-80s), so I wasn't really prepared for the idea that something like that could happen. It was absolutely amazing, flabbergasting, etc. I also felt that the fact that spoiler[Zagato was actually rescuing rather than kidnapping Emeraude] was pretty epic, although somewhat expected from her lack of fear and the way they interacted.

I've browsed through all of my seen series, and really, nothing seems to be have been as big of a twist to me as that. Maybe it was just because I hadn't seen many series then and now I'm a little 'hardened' to such surprises, or maybe that really just was an "epic" twist, I don't know. But that's tops to me. My husband too, it seems, because without saying why I was asking, when I asked him, "When you think of an epic anime plot twist, what do you think of?" his immediate response was, "Rayearth."

The final episode of School Days. I kind of knew what might happen because of the news report about the final episode being canceled. But when I started watching I had to check to make sure I was watching the right show because it starts out as a romantic comedy and turns into aspoiler[ psychotic killing.]

Call this typical for naming such standardly popular and talked about series, but I really think no series has ever caught me more off gaurd with any kind of plot twist quite like both Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist have. I don't think I could even choose between the 2!

But yes, in Bleach, spoiler[at the end of the Soul Society arc, where we find out that Aizen is not only alive, but in charge of everything!] That was totally unexpected!

And in Fullmetal, when spoiler[in the end you find out that the other side of the gate is actually our world! I actually found this one quite disturbing and a bit confusing at first, but MAN did that one surprise me!]

I agree. I wasn't expecting thatspoiler[ L would die. I was expecting that L would somehow defeat Light but it turns out that it was the other way around.] That was kinda surprising and disappointing.

Monster really sticks out in my mind as having the best plot twists. (I watched the anime before reading the manga) It's been awhile but I still remember when spoiler[ Nina turned out to be Johan in drag.] one in a long list of jaw droppers for me.
