This appeared online earlier. It's a casting call for the live action DBZ movie, along with the director announcement. Warning: Spoilers below.

If you're going to post spoilers either mention it in the title or actually use spoiler tags. Don't simply type "spoiler's below."
And as Key said I hope to God this is a hoax because this is ridiculous. Who's gonna star as Goku, Jackie Chan? |

Wow.
Where to begin: Goku- SCHOOL!? Goku was a committed fighter, he never went to school! The rest of it sounds OK, but why isn't Krillin in this movie? Bulma- It wasn't bad until they called the Dragon Radar the "DBE, Dragon Ball locator device", why over complicate things? And why the hell is she capable of fighting period let alone being a "weapons expert"? The whole thing behind her character was that she was able to find solutions WITHOUT fighting! She'd either build a machine or come up with a cunning plan, but never fight. Yamcha- Ummm... so he's a cable guy or something? Why is a bandit suddenly running around in a utility truck (A UTILITY TRUCK! They couldn't even make it something cool!)? This character is DOA. Master Roshi- "Older man"? Is "old man" really that un-PC, they did say he looked like a beggar after all. But that's beside the point, why is he even getting involved. He trained Goku (and Krillin), but rarely got involved, let alone as a travel companion. He should be staying on his island (which I assume is now a dojo somewhere in Hollywood or something equally ridiculous) Mai- Why is she with Piccolo and why is she a shape shifter? Moving on... Piccolo- Looks human, is a ruler of race of demons, and likes working with Saiyan's too? Guy sounds like an original era Star Trek style Klingon. Oh, and can't forget his ninja army. Sure, why not? ChiChi- I'm not even going to bother... Gohan- I've come to the conclusion that this movie will not include monkey tails, extending poles, or anything else remotely resembling the "Journey to the West" that Dragon Ball is based on. And people thought Transformers was bad... Emerje |

Hmmm... if this is true, it sounds like Fox rushed a backburner movie concept not quite ready for the greenlight with a B-list director at the helm just to get as many films "in the can" as possible before the planned summer 2008 talent strike.
Not that I really care one way or another about a live-action Dragonball Z film, so I'm not particularly bothered by any of this. The only reason I'd watch any live-action movie based on Dragonball Z, no matter how slavishly it adheres to the source material, would be for pure "trainwreck" value. |

A dragonballz movie already came out. Didn't anyone see the last fight in Matrix Revolutions?
I'd watch the movie, good or bad. Of course that's when it comes to blockbuster and I rent it free...I barely pay for any movies at the theatre and this wouldn't be one of them. I could very well see that it IS true though. I mean come on, Bloodrayne was one of the worst game-> movie adaptations(or worst movies ever..) with horrible reviews and low scores EVERYWHERE, but the second one just came out on dvd at my store about a month ago . People just don't care if it's a bad or good movie anymore, they'll make it and push the crap into the audience's faces worldwide. |

I've said before that I'd love to see it and think it'd be a good idea if they could at least make a good adaptation of it, but it looks like that might not happen now. Unless it's not very legitamate information of course, which I pray to my father in heaven that it isn't, which probably is the likely chance anyways.
I mean seriously, don't you think they should at the very least read the comics or watch the anime if they're going to make this happen? Because it's quite obvious they haven't even touched either. Either that or they apparently think they're better writers than Akira Toriyama or something. But seriously though, this just takes away from everything that makes Dragonball what it is. I mean yeah, I too would support a Dragonball movie no matter how bad, but this is just ridiculous..... |

Uwe Boll must be apart of of this project. Only him would think of something so stupid and riduculous. When will flim directors learn that when you make a live action movie about an anime or a videogame. You are asking for the worst movie of the year. Also, which manga did they read when they came up for the writing for this. It's look like they were pulling this out of their you know what.

I cannot honestly picture a live action movie based off any of the Dragon Ball series! Especially how lame Dragon Ball was... the only true excitement was the King Piccolo saga but even that wouldn't make a live action movie. Doubt this will be the least bit successful.

I'm surprised Hollywood isn't doing a One Piece movie to cash in on the POTC series.

Ahem: For sake of convenience, I've trimmed down the descriptions into a probable plot for the film:
_________________________________________________ At 18 years old, Goku is considered uncool and unpopular at school. Goku’s lifelong love interest, Chi Chi is an attractive, tom boy-ish young woman who has grown up with Goku. She has studied martial arts and suspects that Goku possesses talents that are unusual and extraordinary. Goku is in fact an extremely talented martial arts fighter who gets rigorous training from his grandfather, Gohan, who has trained Goku on the bow staff. He loves his grandson and is happy to prepare a special feast for him on his 18th birthday, as well as a special gift: a 3 star Dragon Ball. (I’m guessing Bulma pops up first looking for this Dragonball, our Macguffin). Tragically, Gohan is struck down by the high ninjas of the Namek-Jins, and as he dies he sends his grandson out to do face his destiny and do battle against them. Goku finds his destiny in his grandfather's dying request that he find Master Roshi and gather all seven Dragon Balls (of which he has one) in order to prevent Piccolo from succeeding in his desire to use the dragonballs to take over the world. (End Act 1, ~30 minutes) Bulma, who has a DBE (a Dragon Ball locator device), teams up with Goku. Bulma, whose father's five star Dragon Ball was stolen by Lord Piccolo, believes that she can harness their unlimited energy and change the world like Edison or Einstein. Although he looks like a beggar, Roshi is one of the world’s most fearsome fighters and begins Goku's rigorous training to prepare him. Master Roshi is impressed with Goku's fighting but reminds him of his failings as well. Yamcha, "the bad boy who has no trouble attracting women," taunts Goku, Bulma and Master Yoshi, who have ended up trapped in a sand cave, rather than helping them with his rope ladder. However, he overhears Master Roshi's tale of Piccolo: Piccolo is the cursed ruler of a demonic race who nearly destroyed Earth 2000 years ago, and with the coming of the eclipse and the possession of all seven Dragon Balls, he's prepared to free himself and do the job right this time. Yamcha has a change of heart and not only helps the three in the desert, but becomes a valuable part of the team. An ingenious young man whose utility truck is the Swiss Army Knife of trucks--every tool and gear imaginable sprouts from its body--Yamcha joins Goku, Bulma (with whom he becomes romantically involved) and Master Yoshi on their quest to find the seven Dragon Balls. (1/2 Point of the Film? - everyone’s assembled, yay) They find Dragonballs, and stuff. Goku proves himself a formidable, almost undefeatable fighter. Chi Chi meets up with Goku and his crew at a tournament of champions where their mutual attraction finally heats up during a training session. Crafty and quick thinking, Mai uses her ability to shapeshift near the climax of the movie and to take on the form of Chi Chi. Goku’s group has suffered much only to find the seven Dragon Balls ultimately snatched from their grasp. (I’m guessing that Mai takes advantage here to steal the Dragonballs, comparable to Mystique poisoning Professor X and swaying Rogue toward the end of X-Men. Which leads to Act III- ~30 minutes left, give or take) Mai saves Piccolo from Master Roshi's curse; once she is revealed she ends up in the fight of her life. Piccolo has some disturbing news for Goku, namely that the boy is actually a Saiyan who's destined to join Piccolo as his right hand in destroying and enslaving the planet. Fight, fight. Ultimately, Master Roshi sacrifices his own life in order to destroy Piccolo.. Goku wins, etc. End. Everyond goes out for a barbecue except Krillin, who is still miffed that he was cut from the film. Oh yeah, and since Fox likes cheap cliffhangers nowadays, maybe in the credits we will see Piccolo Junior hatch from some unnoticed egg. ______________________________________________ Some uncertaincies: Piccolo starts out locked in some sort of Dead Zone and needs others to free him. Gotcha. So, is this “Roshi’s Curse”?, or does Roshi’s Curse refer to Roshi’s attempt to destroy Piccolo? Also, something I find amusing. After years of wondering how a DBZ movie would end up, who would make the cut, etc.... it's revealed that the villain is a suped up Pilaf.
Believe it or not, Jackie Chan is playing Mr. Miyagi in a remake of the Karate Kid... directed by Will Smith. |

I would watch this movie for the same reason that I recently bought Garzey's Wing. if this isn't a joke then I'm going to watch it and laugh and laugh and laugh and then die a little inside at the fact that the concept of DBZ (which is hardly in-depth at all) was made so terribly.

You mustn't have heard of the Chinese one. And I must steal a line from somethingawful that will sum up my interpretations of this newsblurb:
I guess I know the real reason behind the Suzuki X-HEAD concept. |

Dragonball Z was incredibly popular among young kids in its prime, and while many of those kids never became anime fans they might still be interested in seeing this movie. Obviously they know the basic plot of DBZ, so why in the world would Fox alienate such a valuable demographic by producing a hack job? Really, the only people that would conceivably watch this are fans of the TV series or manga, so I don't think that this "plot" is authentic or at least not the final draft.
Or maybe the Fox people behind this are all complete morons, that wouldn't be unrealistic. |
