Would like to apologize for my rude former post. I'm very sorry, I just wasn't aware.

Now that that's over with...

There is nothing like that feeling of watching a great anime with a smashing finish. The feeling is very sad (because it's over) and also profound.

I've really liked the ending of two shows I've seen so far. DNAngel's ending was really appropriate but also very sad because spoiler[Dark had to leave Daisuke and the Niwa family forever] but you sort of knew that from the beginning. still, though fitting, it was melancholy. spoiler[also Daisuke and Riku's kiss is very sweet]

Another show with a really great ending was Yu Yu Hakusho. You watch the series for a looong time, so you expect a really great ending, and instead of going with the way Yusuke traditionally wins all his battles . spoiler[i.e. he has some kind of power-up and kicks ass] the fact that The Three Kings Saga ended unlike the way Yusuke normally fights was brilliant spoiler[he LOSES the last tournament, which is unheard of up until that point] so instead of ending with some kind of climax you really get a sense of finish because the ending scene is just spoiler[ a few years after the tournament Yusuke and his friends hanging out at the beach having fun Smile]

What about you?

Well, it's not really the ending of the series, but I'm partial to the ending of Samurai X: Reminiscence. I think it's the best ending I've seen. There is a sense of poetic justice because spoiler[Kenshin now suffers for the way he made others suffer.] It is also great because it's heart-wrenching and you never expect it throughout the OVAs. It's also especially memorable because they tie in a symbol by showing how he gets his scar. It's just so tragically beautiful.

Cut and pasted from the first one:

I liked how Sailor Moon ended. By which, I mean Sailor Stars When Usagi spoiler[defeated Chaos, save Galaxia and her friends and was able to be back with her beloved Mamoru.]

Another series where I enjoyed the ending was Angelic Layer. Now, I liked the anime much better than the manga. CLAMP's reason for Misaki's mother being gone for so many years was stupid, when the anime spoiler[had her mother being physically ill and unable to walk, seeing Misaki and her mother walking down the street, talking to each other was just wonderful! Well that and Icchan and Ohjiro peeking around the corner looking at them and Icchan saying to Ohjiro almost accusingly or perhaps suspicously "you want the daughter don't you!"]

Even though its was short I love the ending to FLCL spoiler[because its prove that Naota didn't have be so quick to act so mature and grow up just yet. And the second scene with Haruko flats out rocks. Mine second favorite ending is Trigun Vash finally able to face his brother Knifes and defeat him. The series could not have ended better. Also,I like the ending to Cowboy Bepop after his Spike his last battle he just says bang and fell down]

[EDIT: Fixed your spoiler tags. -TK]

You and I are among the very few who actually like this OAV. I also liked the emotional journey between Kaoru and Kenshin as shown in these episodes. Manga purists hate it and I can see why, after having finally read the manga, but I think in the way it really tells its own story, and not judging it in contrast to the manga, the reminiscence OAV is very good and does a nice job of leading to an emotional climax that I found really touching and, surprisingly, not completely sad. It was a fulfillment of a promise kept.

I was on my way to posting my thoughts on my recent watch of Angelic Layer, and then I see your post. Razz

This show was surprising to me in a lot of ways, but one of the biggest and best surprises is the ending to the series. From what I got about Shuko, Misaki's mother, throughout the series, I actually really hated her (I'm using the word 'hate' about an anime character so that's how deep it was). And when it got to the episode near the end spoiler[where we were finally going to see the two meet], I hesitated. I actually stopped and watched a movie before watching that episode because I was sure it was going to end in some incredibly cheesy fashion that would just be totally unsatisfactory to me. So after I watched the movie I used to fill time (French Kiss my 4th favorite movie of all time, in case anyone's interested in that although I don't see why you would be) I dragged my feet back to the DVD player to re-insert the last Angelic Layer disk and prepared myself for the worst possible conclusion.

This is where the show gained some additional respect points form me. I had it rated 'very good' by here and this moment pushed my final rating up one. It handled the moment so well from both sides that while I still had a bit of resentment for the mother, I could only see how the spoiler[final reunion] was more beneficial to Misaki, and so despite my grudge against Shuko, I found myself smiling with a tear in my eye because spoiler[this little girl who was crying over being abandoned had finally found her mom again].

Personal favorite ending:

Anime ending of Gunslinger Girl. I know this by no means concludes the story, I have a short stack only 3 deep of manga that tells me this Anime cry , but I really liked the way the anime ended. I think the closing scene set to Beethoven's 9th is not only incredibly emotionally and poignant, in my opinion, but as the girls spoiler[just stare at the sky and sing] it is more telling and does the series more justice than any closing monologue or epilogue could. And it was very pretty too. I could even say this story has two great endings as the short bit after the credits is also very telling in it's own way, again without dialogue.

Well I didn't think the first version was rude, but this is better since we get to find out why you said Yu Yu Hakusho and DNAngel.

So here's what I said in the previous thread:

Having said that, here's my answer. I like Samurai Champloo's ending, well last two episodes anyway. spoiler[We finally get to see the Samurai who smells like sunflowers, and the fight scenes were just great. Of course, I'm sad that they all have to split up], but it went accordingly with my expectations, unlike BECK and Paradise Kiss' endings. Their endings were both underwhelming.

And I hate to say it, but I also liked Fushigi Yuugi's ending. spoiler[I know it was a bit sappy, but I really like it when the endings are happy endings. Sad endings just depress me, and as a result I tend to brood over them].

I know, but the ending was a bit mushy, don't you think? That's why I'm kinda embarassed and I don't want anyone to call me a sap (I know I am a sap, but I don't want to be called one! Laughing )!

I'm a sap too! Just take a look at my "10 Favorite and 5 least Favorite." I believe that FY is #3 on the list!

No hard feelings, we all make mistakes. I know I've shoved my foot in my mouth on many occasions, here and elsewhere. I'm glad to see the thread is back as I agree that this could be a really fun topic.

PLEASE PUT YOUR ENDING COMMENTS IN SPOILER TAGS
NOT EVERYONE HAS SEEN EVERYTHING YOU'VE SEEN!

Regarding Fushigi Yugi... spoiler[The ending was doubly impressive for giving you two possible outcomes. If you only watched until the credits roll you got one outcome, but if you kept on watching you got another outcome altogether. Truly the best of both worlds because if you were satisfied with the first you could just turn it off and be done, but if you were disappointed and left it running you got all the happiness you could have hoped for.]

In the world of anime Fushigi Yugi is a rare gem of a show and a true diamond in the rough. It's also the show that convinced me to start the surprisingly long-lived What are you watching now? Why? thread.

A good point as to why one should ALWAYS watch the final episode's ending credits all the way through. I think Witch Hunter Robin pulled that stunt as well.

I was actually talking about Trust and Betrayal, but I definitely love the ending to Reflection as well. I think what happens to Tomoe and Kenshin is a little better written than Kaoru and Kenshin. But the ending wih Kaoru was what made me cry. Go figure.

I'd have to disagree with you here spoiler[ the ending to the manga made more sense to me than the anime ending. To me it made less since that she wouldn't have known/seen her mom for years because of illness. In the manga her mom was working to help her go to a good school, which is not uncommon in Japan. Parents will often move to a different area to work to send their child to a good school. Also she's a single mother, and we don't know why. If she's an unmarried mother that could be another reason why she did not see Misaki (sp?),
an aspect the that the anime series did not probably did not want to show.]

I love the ending to Cardcaptor Sakura. spoiler[ I just love happy endings, although the series leaves off bitter sweet, you know they will see each other again. ][/spoiler]

Embarassed Sorry, my bad, I got used to calling them Tsuioku Hen and Seiso Hen so I get confused with reflection and reminiscence and I forget that's the trust and betrayal one (These OAVs just have way too many names). Actually I liked Tsuioku Hen better too (I'll just go with the names that don't confuse me), but I did enjoy Seiso Hen a lot too.

My favorite ending of the anime I have seen so far has got to be Paranoia Agent. I love how the characters were developed and how everything came together so beautifully in the end spoiler[the connection between Li'l Slugger and Maromi and how they came into existence] absolutely blew my mind and after it was over all I could say was "wow". I also enjoyed the spoiler[ bond between the detective and his wife. I liked that even though she was so weak and sickly physically, she showed amazing strength when she encountered Li'l Slugger. Her love for her husband and dedication to him had me cheering her on.] I have also never been spoiler[creeped out so much by a pink stuffed dog!]

Ai no Kusabi has the best ending to any anime I've seen. spoiler[The most romantic conclusion to a tragic story of passion and love and (obviously) very heart-wrenching. Even though it was only two episodes long, I felt that the end made all of it fit so well into time. I don't usually remember endings to anime I've seen, not because I'm stupid but because they weren't memorable and Ai no Kusabi has a very memorable and ending and that deserves my appreciation.]
