So, you want the website to stay open so that you can continue to pay for what now becomes bootlegs instead of buying the real thing. Once you pay for a fansub, it becomes a bootleg. Aside from that, I too also know what website it is, and you have to pay $5.99 a month or $1 per gigabyte for FTP access if you can't to use BT or on a modem. Considering that 3-4 episodes equals 1GB, this probably could equal $30-50 a month, but still, this is illegal, and I know better than to believe that they will claim that the money is used to pay for bandwidth. Seriously, if 100,000 people download $40 (40GB) worth of anime a month, this will equal $4,000,000 a month! Or $48 million a year. A 40Mbit T3 line usually costs up to or more than $2000 a month. So, with this information, draw your own conclusions. Of all things, they are using PayPal too. Hmmmm. Has anyone realized that the "quote" at the bottom of the corporal punishment question was taken from an erotic school/spanking stories website? Quite kinky indeed! Just wanted to point that out, I have to go now to do errrr some research.

I'd just like to say that I read the book mentionned in the article on corporal punishment called "Shogun's Ghost: The Dark Side of Japanese Education" and I'f you're interested in corporal punishment in Japan it is a must. The author (american I think) taught english in Japan and it is a collection a stories he heard from others teachers and stories he witnessed first hand, like this story of a teacher who beat to death his student who brought a hair dryer on a school trip (it was forbidden). |

I have a having I, as well as many, know which site (2 words, first letter of each starts with N and F.), but it wrong, heck, it's wrong to have fansubs even after the series has been picked up even if they don't charge money. I'm wondering why the company, what the heck, Viz, hasn't sent a Cease and Desist since a ton of people get the series from the site. |

Please do not name any bootleg sites or sites that distribute licensed fansubs, for money or for free here.
Don't even hint at the names. Some people will react with outrage, other people will go download fansubs. Feel free to discuss, just don't do anything that can aggravate the problem. Oh, and we're working on a bit of a followup for next week. -t |

Whoa! Hold on there skippy. I never said I paid for anything, did I? I don't pay to download fansubs, because that's wrong. Fansubs are not for profit. The site (Henceforth refered to as "The Site") is a great site for things aside from what was mentioned. It's a great community and a good source of information on that particular fandom. Next time, why don't you ask what I mean before assuming things, hmm? |

I do remember reading a book for my Japanese Culture class that had an afterword about a girl being killed by a closing school gate. What's even more disturbing is that the teacher(s) actually justified the action, citing that the girl (in this case) should have been more punctual in order to prevent this from happening. Now, I am all fine for Zero Tolerance, but this is a little extreme, to say the least.
Also, another citing of people holding things on their head: An episode of the 2nd Tenchi Muyo OAV involved Washu holding a "class" about the Massu with the other girls being the students. Each time one of them misbehaved, a miscellanous object dropped onto her head to remain held up during the lecture. |

I thought it was pretty obvious just by reading the quote, even before clicking the link, what with the part about her heart beating faster and wanting to peruse the manual later at her leisure and all that. At any rate, I'm sure there are a number of readers who may be doing some "research" after reading the column and clicking the link provided. Maybe quoting from and linking to softcore fetishistic erotic fiction was intentional? Humor value? Or a service to the readers? I don't know.  I sent an e-mail about it anyway.

yeah, I know exactly what site. It was once a great community for information. Now the mentality (dominated by immature schoolers who think they own thier fav anime) there now welcome illegal direct downloads of liscensed anime. And they have a pretty huge following too. They will happily spread this news to many more people like a virus. And I am willing to bet my car that they are makin some mad cash raping the industry like this. |

Wow, the article on the dark side of Japan's education was morbidly fascinating and brutal. I am kind of interested in it though. It's amazing how cruel people can be. I think this explains a lot about the Japanese being f-ed up *coughHideakiAnno*
