Okay, so after watching Gungrave a while back, I totally fell in love with the ending, Akaneiro ga Moeru Toki, sung by Japanese indie rock/funk band Scoobie Do. No, I don't believe it has anything to with Scooby Doo, though to tell you the truth, I could honestly see a Scooby Doo chase with their music .
Anyway, I just want to get their name out because they seriously, seriously rock! Not sure what genre of rock you'd call this, but I found some of their PVs uploaded on Youtube. I've heard some of their other songs, which also rock, and am thinking of starting to buy their albums in the near future. The vocalist reminds me of a real energetic Mick Jagger (just look at the way he dances, he's really into it ). Please give them a listen, and let me know what you think. Thanks! I'm hearing a lot of jazz and a little, of what I think is, swing influence in there to go along with the funk. Not bad, but they are not in my tastes as they are too light on the guitars and their overall sound.

Jazz and swing.. yeah, that sounds about right. I couldn't think of the words go with some of the trumpets and tambourine I was hearing in the background. Personally, I prefer the lightness of their guitar and vocals. It's a big part of the reason why the music makes me feel all mellow. A few of their other songs are a just tad heavier on the guitar, and they also have some pieces that are completely instrumental (not instrumental as in an off-vocal version of a song, but that it was originally just vocal-less). Thanks for listening!

They sound petty good, they remind me of the Beatles, (edit) without the screaming fan girls.

Yup Jazz and swing elements are there. The trumpet and softer guitar tones really give it a mellow jazz/rock feel. It reminds me of Cowboy Bebop off the top of my head and seems more fitting there then say in Gungrave. They seem like a good club band. Not those dance clubs, but more like the swingers and jazz clubs. Now those are fun places to go let me tell you heh. Overall a good band Tony. J-rock/J-pop is the one area of anime fandom I know next to nothing about. I know what opening and closing songs I like from shows but I couldn't tell you who they are lol. I hope to change that and get more into the music so I can start getting some cds. I think I'll add Scoobie Do to the list of possible cds to get. |

Funny you should mention that since the composer of Gungrave is Tsuneo Imahori, who is also Yoko Kanno's guitarist and close musical friend . Not sure if composers have any say over OP and ED songs, but I think it's a nice little "degrees of separation" thing to take notice of. |

This is the first time I've seen a mod just post a casual thread.
Music's not too bad. Normally not my cup of tea, but I like it. |

"sister" is such a great track. A friend of mine sent me some of his stuff; and I thought it was out of this world. Pure J-FUNK.

Whether or not they have any say I'm sure there might have been a slight influence along the lines there. |
