Not that it matters much in the world, but I noticed that the BBS at AIC English website has been down for nearly a month now. Has anyone at ANN noticed this or asked AIC why it's still down, or do they even plan to revive it?

I have not learned anything since they posted the letter on their website and they have not returned my e-mails on the subject. I have to travel to Tokyo early next month, but I don't think I'll have the chance to drop buy and ask.

I don't visit it much anymore (it just got too cluttered), but I am surprised that ANN have not taken any notice of it.

What I have learned at AIC:

September 26, 2003
Dear AIC BBS members and visitors,

Thank you for visiting our anime forum.
In the last few weeks, the AIC web server went down three times and due to the fact that AIC currently has that server collocated at a remote location we were limited to remote analysis and initially unable to determine the causes for these problems.

When the web server went down again at 2:30A.M. on September 26th, 2003 we finally located the problem: A malfunctioning hard drive in the web server was the reason for all this trouble. Although it didn't damage most of our online contents, the affected parts caused huge damages to our web forum. All of the posts in last two months were destroyed as most of members already noticed after the server came back online around 4:00A.M on September 26th, 2003. We were very upset by the damages and feel dreadfully sorry for being unable to prevent this disaster.

There are no words for us to show how sorry we are to have lost the contributions and efforts of our members by a broken forum. Please accept our most sincere apologies.

The network team is assembling a new server and has applied for our own dedicated high-speed network connection to provide for a long term solution. On the AIC BBS side, we will close the forum for two to three weeks until we have a stable environment and can be sure that the same thing won't happened again. So the reason we close the forum is that we are forced to run the website on the current unstable web server until the new one is in place. We don't know when the current server will freeze again and we absolutely don't want more damage to our forum. We can assure you that the members data and profiles are 100% unharmed and safely backup-ed to another server at the moment.

The other web contents will be kept updated in next few weeks as usual and the BBS WILL come back after everything is settled. Many parts in the forum may have vanished but we hope the support to AIC anime and your interest towards animation will not.

We would like to express our genuine apology again and hope to see you in the near future. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email us.

Sincerely yours,
Admin on behalf of AIC

Forums go down all the time. THEM Anime's forum went down not too long ago, due to a hacker.

That's not news. It's not anime. It's not related to ANN. It has little relevance to this forum, and so it wasn't brought up.

And now it's locked.
