Here's a condensed version of that lecture courtesy of yours truly:
1. Buy a lot of manga.
2. Put it on yourshelf.
3. Repeat from step one .
OK, I'm kidding of course . It sounds like an interesting lecture.
Manga is the Japanese word for printed comics and cartoons. They are now read everywhere, and one can find a manga on every topic and for every age group. There are history manga, animal manga, yakuza manga, culinary manga, Sci-Fi manga, and music manga. Come and learn about the different types of manga and why manga has become such a popular medium of communication, education, and entertainment in Japanese culture.
Doesn't sound like the class tells anything about collecting.

Perhaps not the type of collection you might be thinking of... Looks like this class is focused toward librarians who work in collection development of their libraries. Such librarians would need that overview in order to determine what place manga would hold in their libraries' collections, etc.
I've noticed that manga/graphic novels have become a 'hot topic' on the various library listservs I belong to (I'm currently working towards my Master's in Library Science.)
