If they're gonna get more Toriyama, I'd rather they pick up more of his one-shots like Go Go Ackman. Anyway, I'd figure they'd have learned from Dr. Slump that not everything from the guy's gonna be big here. Plus I don't see the point in getting the rights to an anime based on a game for a system from a company which continues to rank third in the console wars. Is Viz hoping that the same user base which only makes games like Halo and Gears of War a hit is suddenly going to buy into something kiddie? I don't get it.

Thanks to its early start and other reasons, it's actually first among the seventh-generation home video game consoles. Microsoft said it has sold 10 million Xbox 360s by the end of 2006. Nintendo said it has sold 6 million Wiis by the early months of 2007. Sony said it shipped (not necessarily sold) 4 million PlayStation 3s in the same time. Then again, what's true today won't be by this weekend. The Xbox 360 is lagging badly in Japan, which is the main reason Microsoft pushed hard for this RPG to be made in the first place. None of the three new consoles compare in user base to the previous generation (PlayStation 2's 115 million vs. Xbox's 24 million vs. GameCube's 22 million) yet, but not many people are launching anime based on a last generation console game either. |

Well, it's ranked first worldwide (with US numbers leading), but you can argue that it's all because of the early release. However, Viz might be aiming for those who actually buy BD on the 360, and it's safe to say that a lot of RPG players tend to like and enjoy anime, so that might be their goal. |

Ah i am starting to slowly hate VizMedia and buying up the rights for anime be4 it's even aired in Japan. But what i am more scared of is Blue Dragon magna if they do get it, its gonna be edited out the wazoo. Because all Ral cares about is girls and breast. He does more than his fair share of grabbing and all.
But this could be good because i saw the raws already and it looks very nicely drawn of course. Toriyama really is putting his best animation into this anime which is no surprise there anyways. I mean at least VizMedia allows fansubbers to continue on with the series. |

Egan: Actually, I hear that MS has been cooking the books on sales.

There was a hefty stock of Xbox 360s in stores during the holidays but, as that article notes, not four-million-plus of them. The Xbox is definitely not third place in the current generation of home consoles, and in the final tally, it wasn't third place in the last one either. Not that being on a third place or even fourth place console means a bad anime version… Not at all—we had some fun anime from GameCube and Dreamcast games. |

Blue Dragon has been getting a ton of hype ever since the news of its production has begun. However, it would really suck if the franchise, as a whole, bombs for all involved...
Well, good luck to them. |

The truth comes out! What I'm really interested to see is how many fansub groups will now race to get Blue Dragon subbed. Starting from 0 right now, I'd expect from 2 to 4 'new' groups to spring into existence over the next week just to try to beat another Viz license to viewers so that they can get it for free. With the window now closed so tight that NO fansubs have been released before licensing, I'm just getting curious how long Viz will let what happened (is happening) with Naruto, then Bleach, then Death Note continue to go on. |

The question is whether there's really a demand for Blue Dragon in the fansub world. When people think of Toriyama, they think Dragon Quest 8, not the other Dragon Quests, which are good, but super-deformed, and thus don't sell here. Outside of GT, every series from the guy in which the main characters are kids has disappointed or failed in the U.S. I'm not counting Tobal, because that tanked for different reasons.

I'm actually really upset that this has been licensed already. This is one of the shows I was looking forward to watching .
I don't think they'll race, but fansubs will definitely be out. Since when has licensing stopped fansubs?
I think there is. Actually, that's probably where this series has the most potential to gain a fanbase. |

i thought this was just a matter of time. This isnt just a startup manga/anime, it already has the backing of a very hyped up game that came from distinguishing creators and designers.
I really dont see that happening as there is no way to completely get rid of subbers as more will just spring up in trying to restrict it. Its only been airing for 2 weeks and unless the subbers are fanatical for the title it probably be a week or 2 before they are subbed whereas Viz will probably want to air (im guessing since they bought tv license) when the game is close to being released in august.
maybe, maybe not but lots of anime get sub and unsubbed and i think this has much more hype to where people are expecting this to be subbed to see what the big deal is about. |

Something I do not understand is why there's hype for Blue Dragon at all - isn't it just some kind of generic RPG fantasy with Toriyama's designs? As in, something like Chrono Trigger (haven't played it)?
There are other titles that one would think to be a lot more likely for a license (Busou Renkin) that have been airing for a while with a decent following in America; but to gamble on an anime that just started off? Maybe this is another attempt at a phenomenon farm? Or perhaps this is a move to solidify Shueisha/Shogakukan - VIZ Media - Studio Pierrot relations? if so, then why the investment in the dying Toei Animation? |

Yeah, but it's an rpg for the X-box, and people are hoping it won't suck like Fable, since there are already so few games of that genre for the system. Plus it's an effort on Sakaguchi's part to make up for Spirits Within.
You're not really missing anything, but if you have to get it, wait for it to be on the Wii, since the PS version has godawful loading times. CT is fairly repetitive and generic. But compared to other rpgs with multiple endings(*cough* Star Ocean *cough*), it actually does give you different outcomes, depending on your choices. A better rpg, with the same concept, though is Final Fantasy Legend 3 for GB. |

This should be interesting. Well, I wonder how long will it be when the anime comes out after the video game. I sawn trailers for both the game and anime so I give luck on this series into American markets. At least the RPG gamers would be thankful for a better next-gen RPG other than Enchanted Arms.

I'm not a gamer, and the only games for the GB/GBA (?) I've ever played were The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Ages. When I first played it, I was thinking "dude, this is bloody awesome!" because the games were quite a distraction and had a fairly original story, with some nice epic and tragic elements to boot. Then I found out the other Zelda games were practically the same, specifically A Link to the Past. Since then, I've noticed a lot of Square-Enix's stuff tends to lean toward generic Japanese fantasy settings, and elements of these settings are reflected in manga as well (like Naruto and One Piece) - there's also a movement in Japanese literature I read of that's doing something simmilar with science fiction writing (like Haruhi), though it's tough for even Japanese cultural anthropologists to define, let alone someone like myself. |
