See, this was why I was annoyed that they put the manga out first.
These two stories were riveting in the novel, and Otsu-ichi is one of the best writers of his generation. While he normally does horror, these stories still have a a grounded edge to them completely devoid of the sappy feel the inappropriate art style seems to have given them.
I recommend giving the novel a chance.

well, that's something to think about, then. i actually enjoyed both of the stories, but i can understand why most readers would find "Kizu" to be lacking and its emotinal content/message to be more than a bit... forced. still, i enjoyed it, and i found the concept of someone possessing the power to take on others' injures onto themself to be pretty intriguing. anyway, i'll be sure to watch for the novel when and if it comes out.
thanks, Andrew.

The review made much sense And I agree. I'm probably one who rated it higher than C because I like that type of story. And really my rating for it is probably only toward the first story.
But because of the short manga, it's made me quite interested in the novel that I might not have picked up until much later.

Kiyohara Hiro (Another's mangaka) made his/her version for both Kizu and Kimi ni Shika Kikoenai (Calling you), which both of them, for me, either from storytelling or artwork, are far moaaar better than Setsuri's version of them.
I read Setsuri's after Kiyohara's, and Setsuri's version felt so... light... (or less deep? anyway, something about less-weight) compared to Kiyohara's...
