What genre do you prefer and what makes its Enjoyable?
What ever it is feel free to say.
My main reason why I am doing this is for a school write up. I have to write an essay on the differnt types of Genres of Anime. Therefore I am collecting Primary research which is information I am collecting by my self. I know this is a pain cause you guys have been asked the same question all the time. It would mean alot if you took a little time to put as few suggestions. What ever genre you choose feel free to give an example!
Down here are a few differnt types of Genre for Anime if there are some examples that I have missed out please feel free to add to them and I will do some updates if I find any new Genre Types.
My personal favorites are Seinen themed Anime like Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star and Gunslinger Girl!
• Josei: Japanese for 'young woman', this is anime or manga that is aimed at young women, and is one of the rarest forms. Example: NANA.
• Kodomo: Japanese for 'child', this is anime or manga that is aimed at young children, for example Doraemon. Hello Kitty, Keropi and Panda-Z are other examples.
• Robot/Mecha: Anime or manga featuring super robots, examples: Mobile Suit Gundam and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
• Moé: Anime or manga featuring characters that are extremely perky or cute, for example A Little Snow Fairy Sugar and Akazukin Chacha.
• Progressive: "Art films" or extremely stylized anime, for example Voices of a Distant Star or Byōsoku 5 Centimetre.
• Seinen: Anime or manga targeted at teenage or young male adults, for example Oh My Goddess!, Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop.
• Sentai/Super Sentai: Literally "fighting team" in Japanese, refers to any show that involves a superhero team, for example Cyborg 009.
• Shōjo: Japanese for 'young lady' or 'little girl', refers to anime or manga targeted at girls, for example Fruits Basket, "Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch"
o Mahō shōjo: Subgenre of shōjo known for 'Magical Girl' stories, for example Sailor Moon.
• Shōnen: Japanese for 'boys', Shōnen is like Seinen, but refers to anime or manga targeted at younger boys, for example Dragon Ball Z or Naruto .
o Mahō shōnen: Male equivalent of Mahō Shōjo, for example DNAngel.

Large edit: Ok, now that your post is edited mine no longer makes sense so I cleaned it out.
Good luck with your homework. Only thing I'll add is if you are looking to write a paper for school then remember that you should also take in consideration who your audience will be as well as the topic. If you do want to use something that you like, such as anime and genres then you should take Tony K's advice. Assuming your audience doesn't already enjoy anime, then you should take a persuasive stance so that you come across as actually saying something instead of just feeding data.

tfatona1, I think instead of simply gauging what kind of genres everyone here prefers, you should rephrase the topic into something like "what makes anime so enjoyable?"
In a writing class I took a few years ago, I made a little compilation book that attempted to introduce the world of anime to anyone that knew next to nothing about it. I addressed the production process, licensing, marketing, and then got a little more in-depth about how it serves as an excellent medium alternative to TV, movies, books, or what have you and how it's growing into a more popular concept. After getting that general stuff out of the way, I then went on to mention how anime consists of numerous genres that can appeal to an extremely wide demographic.
I then made a page of the major genres I knew of and went on to give examples for each. After that, I discussed a little bit of the differences in culture between how anime is perceived in Japan as opposed to animation in general here in the U.S.
I'm not sure what the aim of you paper is other than you just wanting to explain different genres, but maybe you could apply some of the stuff I used to it as well.
EDIT: Fixed some spelling.

And that genre list is straight off of Wiki.

So?
If he wrote it himself and it said the same stuff does it matter?

Copy-Pasting is not writing by oneself. Sorry.

my point is, if he wrote it himself and it says the exact same stuff does it matter that he took it from wiki? Chances are it is better written on Wiki than if he had done it himself so if the same information is gotten across in a more effective manner how is that bad?

Well, I sure hope he/she does not include that exact text in a homework assignment or paper. That's considered Plagiarism.
On the topic at hand, I noticed the original poster excluding hentai and ecchi. Both of which are valid genres -- despite their pornographic taste. Although, I suppose it's the same as discussing movie genres while excluding porn.
Hmmm...

Sugar would probably be able to pass, but I'd be hard pressed calling Akazukin Chcha moé anime. It was serialized in Ribon, a magazine primarily aimed at girls. Moé is typically a male oriented feeling, as such, most moé anime are targeted at males (although, this isn't always true, Mitsukuni from Ouran High School Host Club would probably a example of moé aimed at females, but this isn't common). Aside that, it's also a bit too old... Moé is more a recent trend in anime, so I doubt that's what they were going for...

Personally i enjoy nearly all types of anime, If the story is appealing. I am that unbiased about my cartoons. But I do dawdle in Mecha a bit more though.

As long as a source is given, and who doesn't include sources when they write an essay or article? It's the number one rule of...everything, to give sources.

I am not trying to nit-pick, but how do any of these answers help you write a paper?
If I tell you what I watch, how does that help? Unless you also ask about ourselves (male/female/age/ etc.) how could it possible make any difference to your paper?
If I say I like josei, moe, progressive, some seinen, shoujo, maho shoujo, some shounen and maho shounen (I swear I never heard that term before however I am using the examples listed) how does that help? How does "I asked 10 random posters at an anime site what they liked and this was what they said" give any clue to what people watch?
Are you simply looking for other examples of series/movies in a certain genre that were not listed on wiki?

These choices of genre feel really constricting, they don't encompass the kind I usually think about when I consider the term "genre".
My favorite genres are stuff like slice-of-life or school comedies. I'm not sure which category you've provided would actually fit for me. Many of my favorites are technically based off seinen material, but the seinen examples you've listed definitely do not conform with my personal taste in anime. Perhaps you could clarify exactly what you mean by "genre". A good chunk of your list makes it sound like it's age-based and gender-based, yet we've got stuff like "Mecha" or "Moe" that doesn't quite fit with such a concept of genre. "Mecha" would likely be classified with other genres like "Sci-fi", "Military", "Fantasy", "Mystery", etc., not with age and gender-related terms.

Feel free to give examples of What Anime you watch thats more than ok. You can put down both Genre and Anime if you like. My aim is to look out for the most popular Type of Genre as well as Anime Title. Hope thats ok and it dose not leave you and puzzled
