I hope it's OK to post something like this here in the anime forum. Hopefully it is of some interest.
The Japan Times Online has a short article about Makoto Shinkai's new film, Byosoku 5 Centimeters. The article is here: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/ff20070330a1.html They give a synopsis of the the film and make some comparisons between Shinkai and Miyazaki. I don't think they say anything new or particularly insightful, but I always find it interesting when a mainstream publication talks about anime although I suppose seeing something in a Japanese publication is much less unusual than if it had been from outside of Japan. |

i never thought that they'll make a comparison with Miyazaki =o i mean i have watched the first part and it is indeed a very promisingly good anime and i must say that the combination of CG-realism is very well done but this is not the first time that i've known and noticed the talent of Makoto Shikai. whoever plans to watch this short 3 episode series, please do notice the incredible detail of the surroundings =) it's really very beautiful and incredibly awesome. if anyone's interested, you might want to also try watching Shinkai's earlier works, hoshi no koe (Voices of a Distant Star) and kumo no mukou, yakusoku no basho (The Place Promised in Our Early Days). |

For anyone who watched the first one, does you have any idea when the second part is supposed to come out? The first episode was a bit slow moving but the art was incredible, it was very well made, and the story seemed interesting enough.

It's so funny to see this here now. I just rewatched The Place Promised in Our Early Days again last week and thought to myself, what else is he doing now? I haven't heard anything? So I looked up some trailers and found this information as well. I don't think a comparison to Miyazaki is out of line at all. Frankly, I am very excited to see this...which I am sure will be a long time for me to see the release here.
Edit: I tried to link the trailers I had watched, but they have since been taken down. How disappointing. |
