The last time this topic was brought up its got a little overheated and that thread was not meant for its. So,for posters who want to post in this thread. Please do not flame other posters on their opinion,so if you got a problem with what a poster said either leave the thread alone or report it. Futhermore,I would like to say first that originality do not factor if a show is deep or complex. It what you do with the setup and parts that matters if a show is deep or not. Naruto has some pretty dramatic/sad moments that makes it clear that its really deep. I can not even post all of these moments in this post because there are so many but I would give you a sample of Naruto deepness. For example when Haku dies saving Zabuza life and then Zabuza cry and express his feelings about Haku. Or when the 3th Hokage puts his life on the line to save the village and saying his village is his family to him. If these moments is not deep then nothing is. Also, honorable mentions includes the Gaara vs. Naruto,Neji vs.Naruto,Sasuke vs.Naruto,Choji vs. Jiro,Rock Lee,vs.Gaara,Hinata vs. Neji and heck even the Kimi vs. Gaara was deep. All I almost forgot when Shikamaru cry at the end of the get back Sasuke arc and say he would quit being a ninja because he thought his comrads was dieing. These heart wrecthing moments is the real hallmarks of the show and not the fighting. I can get mindless fighting from any shounen title but Naruto is so much more than that. The hook is the fighting for the children but the adults can see a deep and rewarding anime. Its is a great family oriented show that plays to both audicences well. If you seen all these moments,it hard to say that Naruto is not deep on some level. I am not saying that Naruto is the deepest anime ever but writing its off as a kids show is a little pompous. Also,Naruto have one of the best misical score I have heard in anime. Its the best as dictating the best moments of the anime. Since,Kouji said to prove Naruto is deep ,I think I did a good job of doing that.

But since some time has passed since the original thread, I'll tentatively leave this open for now, but if the flames and reports start coming in, expect the lock.

Here we go again... but before things heats up... I'll give my 2 peso coins =P
Anyway, I think the reason why people think Naruto isn't deep because the way it's being delivered to the viewer is not really that deep. Sure, it can punch you with deep emotion but the way it drives the story isn't all that complex. If you don't get what I'm trying to say then I'll give you a sample...
Try looking inside a bottom of a clear sea. You'll easily see a lot of fish up to the bottom without the need to dive.
Now... try looking at a deep blue sea where you can't see the bottom. You'll hardly know what's in there, right? You need to dive (inspect) in there to know the answer.
You might find the same thing... but you did a different method to find it out.
The first one is the easy one... you only need to look at it to know what's in there.
The second one, you need to approach the sea and look into it to know what's in there.
Ok, what I'm trying to say here is, why would you dive deep if you can actually see the bottom without diving?
That's how Naruto is compared to other show. The show doesn't really need you go around and around with mambo jumbo thinking. Shows that are intended for older teens (which adults prefer because they don't want themselves to be shove by morals) needs you to step inside and be drenched in water to find the answer. [Adjusted size slightly ~Zalis]
The deep part in Naruto is if you dive in that clear water and try to find the smallest possible fish that you can find. And why would I do that anyway when I can just stare at the water and see if I can find something?
While on the dark water you are force to do something else... just staring at the water won't take you anywhere so you need to either get into the water or do something else blah blah...and then, you might stumble into something you're not really expecting as you search for an answer. In short, the answer is hidden and it's hard to find.

If Naruto is so deep, then what is its deeper meaning or message? Sure, each problem is different, but the characters resolve them in the same way. They fight for their "ninja way". In Naruto's case, he is very single-minded in how he fights for his loved ones. The only way he changes other characters is to share his resolve.
There are some nice moments, and I especially liked the bit with Shikamaru after the Rescue Sasuke arc. But for the most part, the lesson of the entire series is that if you have a driving goal, you fight for it. That's about as deep as it goes.
Let's look at another shounen, Hikaru No Go. There are lessons in cheating, overcoming fears, friendship and competition, loss, discovering oneself. There is interesting character growth not just among kids, but among adults who rediscover the lessons of youth. Most importantly, not all problems are resolved with confrontation. The characters grow through these lessons at pace that you can see without lengthy timeskips, another aspect not shared by Naruto.

That depends on your musical tastes. Me, I like the jazz of Cowboy Bebop, the alternative rock of FLCL, and the gentle baroque-style music of Haibane Renmei. I recently started NHK Ni Youkoso!, and the blend of manic synth pop and thrash metal is perfect for the show. I heartily endorse all of them.
P.S. - Use spoiler tags on plot elements.

The thing with Naruto is that it is supposed to give you the feeling that it's deep... sadly, that's just a facade. The "truth', as I call it, is that the series is emotional... not deep... somethings people often confuse for one another...
Do a few overused cliche's like the strength of friendship, and overcoming one's mediocrity or "drop-out"-edness as they say in the series make the series"deep"? No, depth comes when the 'grey area' of things are explored, and more than one side is represented. When things can't being given a simple right and wrong answer.
While in Naruto different problems are addressed, they are all pointed towards the same morals. Friendship overcomes all, hard work and perseverance are rewarded, blah blah blah... Where is the controversy? Where are the parts in the show that make you wonder who was really right? That make you think about which path to take in your life? You might say the Haku arch, or the last arch of the series; but 15 deep episodes in a 140+ episode series hardly makes the SERIES deep; it merely means that a couple episodes are.
I'll admit that the show is touching, but very little of it is deep.

The only thing in Naruto I found remotely deep was the Haku arc... Naruto isn't really that deep. There aren't (m)any parts of the show that really make one think. There are some touching scenes, but still, it's pretty straightforward.
That's not to say, though, that people can/should not like Naruto. It's an alright series, and everybody has their own preferences.
