Okay, so I have been watching Fist of the North star lately. All I can say is it is @#$% hardcore. Kenshiro is probably the most badass character I've ever seen. Anybody else want to express their feelings of how an animation studio can make such a hardcore show (Or the mangaka making such a hardcore manga). The only way I can describe this show is injecting pure condensed testosterone into your blood stream for 30 minutes straight.

I gotta give Fist of the North Star props, merely for old-school purposes...but...I didn't like it too much...I found it dull....
...But, yeah....Keishiro takes puny girly-men like Goku and Tuxedo Mask, and, using the power of his growing pectoral muscles, reduces them to a fine powder.
Then he kills them.

Haha it's been about 12 years or so since I watched it but I distinctly remember an annoying girl walking around the barren place telling people to look at the flower (like a glimmer of hope).
My friends and I used to make fun of that little bit and ran around saying "if you just look at the flower! See the flower?! Look at the flower!!!" that's probably the only reason I remember it.. that and the bloody explosions.

Yes, next to 300 (which was incredible) Fist Of The North Star is a very manly show. It's one of those stories where I believe if you do not enjoy it then you do not know what it means to be a man. It took a while for Fist to grow on me. I didn't like it at first because I thought Kenshiro was too invincible. I always thought "This is lame that he has a technique for every situation. He never even fights." Now I love it for the exact same reason (minus the he never fights part). I'm dying to play that new fighter by Arc Systems Works and we also have the new OVAs coming out, so there will be plenty of Hokuto no Ken action for us men among men. Oh and by the way, after reading this you'll be dead in 5 seconds. I suggest you use the time wisely.

Naw, Fist of the North Star has more.
I saw the first episode about 2 weeks ago. The funniest AND the manliest anime I've ever seen! *remembers exploding buff men* Kenshiro will eat Goku alive.

I have seen all the the New Fist of the North Star and some of the old...
Since my exposure was to released disks, this didn't ALL get released here, did it? Wasn't the series much longer than thru the first arc which I saw (on I dunno, 6? 8? disks)
Anyone know off hand? I recall wanted to see the rest but couldn't find anymore (I generally like to finish all series I start if at all possible)
I didn't get manly at all watching though, maybe my estrogen overpowered all the testosterone in it.

Cromartie wouldn't exist without Hokuto no Ken. It not only borrows very heavily from it (as a homage, of course) but other old school shounen works too. Like Freddie's horse Kokuryu who is named after Raoh's horse Koku-Oh. Or the fact that it's got a character named Hokuto.

It's really not far off. Lynn and that damn flower were just too out of place in the testosterone-fest that was the Fist of the North Star movie.
Incidentally, I personally can thank Fist for turning me into a diehard anime fan. I had seen Akira before, but Fist just opened up a whole new world to me. I mean, this is a guy who punches people AND THEIR HEADS EXPLODE. When you're 15, man, TV can't get much better than that.
I never could get into the TV series as much as I did the movie, but man, they had some downright ingenious cost-cutting tricks in the TV series. Case in point, there's one episode where Kenshiro punches a guy, and before his head explodes, and rather than animating his head throbbing or something, the cel photographers actually warped the animation cell by wrinkling it over the background (imagine the motion a towel makes when you shake it out). I seem to remember a similar scene where they photographed the cel through a goldfish bowl full of water. I mean, that's GENIUS right there.
I do love the freezeframes where Ken shouts out the names of his techniques. My favorite: he jumps in the air, grabs a dude's head, twists it sideways until his neck snaps, then knees him in the face. The technique: "The head-twisting, bone-crunching technique!"

The original Fist TV series ran 109 episodes. I'm not sure how many Manga Ent. released on DVD, but on VHS they released 13 volumes, which should be about half the series. Fist is the kind of show where you really aren't missing anything by not seeing more.
