Alright, so I searched the previous ten pages and found two posts on Appleseed, both locked. One was talking about Appleseed 2 (And had no posts except from the creator and moderator) and the same with a post regarding if anyone had seen Appleseed. Therefore, this is my attempt to start a discussion post on Appleseed; Of course I will also delve into idle speculation on Appleseed 2! Cool

I finished watching Appleseed earlier today, and I really enjoyed it. As a fan of Shounen (Which this most definitely is) type anime the semi-frequent battle-scenes were an appeal to me (I'd estimate five or six actual battles, none of the them over four-five minutes). I'll attempt to breakdown the rest of why I liked it below;

Plot: I enjoyed the plot of the movie, and while a far cry from ranking among the masterpieces I can confidently rate it a solid story. The premise (spoiler[That humans and 'bi-roids' which are artificial humans live together in a city called Utopia. The bi-roids duty is to protect humanity]), is explored for the viewer around ten minutes into the movie, and expanded upon throughout. There are no scenes that seem to drag on as the workings of this particular universe are explained to the viewer, yet a lot of pertinent information is meted out. However, the selling point is not the backstory, but the twists the plot takes during the course of the movie. While there are points where a perceptive viewer can anticipate what is going to happen, a couple sharp turns keep it from being predictable.

Animation: Clearly, this is a standout feature of Appleseed, if for no other reason then the CG is done well and gives it a unique factor the majority of anime movies don't posess. There are many moments which I have to admit were undeniably cool because of CG, and combined with some bullet-time effects along with interesting designs I had no complaints.

Characters: Ok, so admittedly, some of the characters are a bit stereotypical. While the main character is clearly transparent (Pun intended Very Happy ), a few of the secondaries help lend the cast some credibility, doing things with motives that for a time baffle the audience. However, I would have to say overall this was not a particularly innovative feature of the film.

Music: In a word, excellent. The songs interspersed throughout the movie are quite good, and especially in the introduction to spoiler[the city of Utopia], it fits excellently. I felt the music complemented both action and plot-driven scenes in the film well, and will eagerly hunt a few songs when this post is done.

Overall Appeal: Put together and combined with a few other elements that many viewers enjoy (There is a romance, but not an especially deep one), I left with a very good impression of Appleseed on the whole. This gets a 7.5/10 in my book, as while it didn't quite rank up there with my favorites, it merits a watch of at least the first twenty minutes to see if you enjoy it and would be a solid addition to any fans collection.

And now that I've finished the substantive portion of the post...It's time for IDLE SPECULATION! That's right folks, absolutely NOTHING I say will have any bearing from here on out!

Ok, so first off, you must go to the following link and view the trailer (scroll down) for Appleseed 2. This article was written on March 4, 2007, so it's up-to-date.

My view on the trailer:
- Looks amazing
- Again, plenty of Shounen fun, and,
- Welcome to Cliche ville! I'm your mayor, Mr. Fighting-back-to-back-in-a-cathedtral-with-bullet-time-cartridges-being-ejected! It's hard to pronounce, so call me Banal for short. I kid, but I have to say I was laughing/admiring the trailer at the same time as I have seen that exact scene in, I don't know, at least three movies. If the next Appleseed is anything like the first in regards to its action/plot combo and is as beautiful as it looks I'll be happy!

Let the discussion begin!
