I'm looking for a little info from anyone who can help me with this...
http://www.amazon.com/Dominion-Shirow-Masamune/dp/1593076975/ref=pd_sim_b_3/002-1771776-6896832 http://www.amazon.com/Orion-2nd-Shirow-Masamune/dp/1593076959/ref=pd_sim_b_1/002-1771776-6896832 Now I don't know anything about either of these works, but I've been looking to checking out some of Masamune Shirow's manga, and I was wondering though, are these stand-alones, or part of series? Is there any manga that I'd want to read before I picked these two up? |

They're both standalone, and are not related whatsoever to any other Shirow manga. Dominion takes place in Newport City, which I think is the setting of Ghost in the Shell as well, but the worlds are completely different so GitS isn't necessary reading.
Dominion is a one-volume series, with a 1-volume sequel called "Dominion Conflict 1: No More Noise" that features the same characters but its own standalone storyline. Conflict 1 is coming out later this year, I believe. Orion is a one-volume story with no sequel. I know you didn't ask, but as far as anime goes, Orion has never been animated; Dominion was animated as two different series, the 4-episode OAV "Dominion: Tank Police" (US Manga Corps) and the 6-episode OAV "New Dominion: Tank Police" (Manga Entertainment, now out of print). DTP is based on the first Dominion trade; NDTP is an all-new story. I highly recommend buying both....Dominion, in particular, is much funnier than you might expect if you're only familiar with GitS or Appleseed. Great stuff! |

Ah, thank you very much. I think they're re-releasing Black Magic later this year too, good stuff. |

Yep, July 25th according to Amazon. Black Magic's pretty good, but it being Shirow's first manga, it's a little rough around the edges. He rewrote the story for the anime version, and I think I like the anime a bit better. I haven't read the manga version in YEARS, tho.... |
