Wait... Are those papier-mâché monsters really in the series? Those aren't just reminiscent of them -- those ARE the monsters from Dragon Quest. Hahaha. I need to see this.

He looks like the Hero from V. To bad this won't be like the DQDS commercials, where they used foreign actors for better authenticity, like the Russians for IV (dat Minea).

I had seen the picture of him in his hero outfit so I wasn't surprised about him looking like DQV's hero... but the monster designs are really something else. Why didn't they just call this a Dragon Quest drama outright?

Considering I have played every Dragon Quest game, those monsters are indeed from Dragon Quest. However, some are signifcantly older than others and some are newer. Although each Monster family group has changed (graphically or has it's named changed) has had new editions. But to be honest, since there are so many monsters, it's (at times) hard to tell which monsters are truly new and which ones are simply got a face lift in some cases. The wyvern (The bird with wings) the Goldman/golem (the stone statue) and Metal Slime (the blob figure) are the oldest monsters in that picture, dating back from Dragon Quest I/Dragon Warrior one which was released in Japan in 1986 and in US in 1989. Although there are variations of those monsters, the original versions pretty much are the same and the Golem and Metal Slime still (with some modernization) look the same as they did in 1986. Also I noticed one character was dressed the same as the main character in Dragon Quest 4. I'll admit, it's a cool design and it must it have been hard to choose, given there have been multiple main hero's. I am a little surprised by the monster designs as well. But for the most part, whoever designed them did a pretty good job and it's fairly accurate. Although there have been some changes with Dragon Quest since it first was made in 1986, there really haven't been that many and there are some aspects of the game that have remained unchanged. For example, the Metal slime family. Even though two and decades have passed (considering this is a ongoing Rpg series, 25 years and no drastic changes is quite the feat) that group of monsters still gives more exp than any other monster family with the exception of some high level bosses. That and the time frame. Although, to this day I am not sure if a time frame has ever been given for Dragon Quest, the era of this game has not really ever changed and the environment has for the most part stayed the same. Come to think of it, I think there has other been some Dragon Quest anime as well. I only know of two anime series and they are Dragon Quest Dai No Daibokuen (Dai's Great Adventure) and the Dragon Warrior anime that ran from 1989 to 1990. Although Dai's Great Adventure (anime version) had 46 episodes, it ended while the manga was still ongoing. It has never be licensed in the US, although about 4-5 years ago, I heard somewhere that Toei was going to license the series in the US, but since that has yet to happen yet, I get the feeling it was just a rumor. The Dragon Warrior anime actually did aire in the states, but due to bad time slots it was canceled during it's second season with only 43 episodes into the series. Frankly, I am not sure whatever happened to this series after that. I don't think it was ever released into DVD format (or even VHS for that matter) so it's anyone's guess what became of the series after it's cancellation on TV. There are several Dragon Quest manga's, but given the sheer quantity of them and the fact none of them have ever been licensed in America, it's hard to tell how many there in total. I know of only four, Dai's Great Adventure, Dragon Quest seven, Emblem of Roto and a Dragon Quest Monster manga. To my knowledge, Dai No Daibokuken is the only series to have had a series conclusion. Not sure about any of the others though. |

Those people in commercial were Czech actually. Russians sound a lot different. BTW. that show really looks horrible. When I thought that Kamen Rider Kuuga was on the edge of watchable picture quality, but with great effects and costumes in it's league of cheap TV shows...... This really blown me of my chair!!
