I absolutely despise Donkey Kong's redesign. That, along with the $80 price tag, makes me uninterested in this game at this point in time.

I'm immediately skeptical of how enjoyable this is going to be, when I lean more towards the high-skill F-Zero GX stuff being more my cup of tea. SNES, Super Circuit, DS, and Wii were all relatively-technical in their requirements to post good times, and the 3DS and WiiU/Switch Mario Kart games have felt like they've done everything they can to fiddle with how consistent a top player is able to maintain a lead.
It's specifically the sheer number of racers on the track and how wide the roads are seeming in order to accommodate that. I'm incredibly skeptical that a cross-country trek with a wide road and minimal technical turns is actually going to foster any sort of skill requirement to win. The release of Robotnik's Ring Racers in 2024 completely shifted how I view Mario Kart 8 (it's a mess) and with how expensive things are starting to get, I think I may be perfectly content to just stick to Ring Racers if something profound doesn't reveal itself in future Mario Kart World footage.

Anyone worried that this looks like a Live Service game? Everything about it sounds like "The Crew but with Mario Kart".

There's definitely a focus on a lot of online aspects but I refuse to believe there won't at least be a basic single player mode so no I don't think it's a live-service game. It just might be like Mario Maker where most of the content is online so once it's gone it's a very bare bones thing.

Mario Kart goes worldwide on consoles!
Honestly I wonder how long I would spend on the Free Roam aspect.

They were showing it off during the presentation this morning and even the Nintendo presenter couldn't really find anything too fancy to demo about Free Roam. I think there's costumes hidden around the map - a good portion of them you'll find racing naturally, but otherwise I'm quickly getting the impression that the open map is about as necessary as Final Fantasy 15's open world.
I'm bothered by the idea that most of the "courses" seem to be one-way roads. Most races seem to be like Wario Mountain as opposed to Mario Circuit. I'll concede that some of the designs like the Rail Station and the DK Spaceport actually have some complex layouts and look fun to navigate, but it seems pretty clear that Nintendo is trying to distance themselves overall from any sense that the game could be labeled as "competitive".
They really turned me off with the original MK8 and how it only let you hold one item. They're doing the inverse on Switch 2 - now you MUST have your primary item visible behind you (it's automatic) but opponents cant steal it and dropping your Bomb behind you doesn't catch you in the blast.
With 24 characters racing at the same time, I can only imagine that it's going to be a nightmare trying to find a viable item box while everyone is taking them, and then a spam of bombs upon 4th place & lower. Back on DS and Wii, I'd have an average of like 2 Blue shells come for me at max, but MK8Dx will have 3+ during any given race - adding more racers is just going to make that spam worse. I'm getting really bad vibes from everything I'm seeing so far, specifically as someone that felt burned by the original MK8 release's design decisions.

Last time Mario Kart had 'high skill' we had snaking in the DS game and it was annoying and put me off playing that version with other people. I don't play Mario Kart to get competitive I play Mario Kart to get screwed over by bad luck and RNG
Free Roam is whatever. Unless it has GTA Online RP levels of potential it just seems like a gimmick. It was fun to visit Peach's castle in Mario Kart 64 in that one track but it's not something I think is worth making an entire mode over.

That's the exact thought that flew through my mind.
EDIT: They did another presentation this morning, this time having four presenters doing the big Knockout Tour and it pretty much confirmed my fears - I'm not expecting them to be the best players to exist, but the item spam definitely seemed to have the same balance problems I see Deluxe having. I'm looking for that older, more intimate vibe that the SNES/GBA games had where you're gathered close with your friends, and that's just not the direction Nintendo is taking the series.
