Together with Gankutsuou, Grimgar is one of the most beautiful anime I've ever seen.
Every single background is a work of art.
I'm no Isekai fan, but also loved the characters - especially bad boy Ranta ♡ - and the story.
It's a terrible shame that the studio had to shut down.

Nice spread, accounting for almost all corners of the isekai spectrum I feel. If I'm allowed to cheat, my favorite would be Kyousougiga (what? the drawing is another world!!), or maybe Planet With (another planet counts!! that's what world means!!) but going by the most standard definition I just have to agree with the Grimgar pick. Anime-wise it's got pretty unique art, which already differentiates it from so much out there, plus the fact that this really isn't a power fantasy, where we follow actual weak characters whereas the usual gimmick for these things is "my low level/useless skill is actually overpowered", it's just unique on top of unique. Light novel wise it does feel like it goes a bit too far into sadness for the sake of sadness, but it finds its footing eventually and is also one of my favorites in that medium
For the others mentioned, I'm In Love With the Villainess' anime unfortunately didn't get to the really juicy material of the LN, but I really recommend picking up the second volume of it if you liked the anime even a little bit. Re:Zero I feel could stand to have less grating dialogue and character writing but when it's good it's Grimgar level of good (or maybe I just like sad stuff).

I've never seen the anime, but Isekai Izakaya's manga (release in the US as Otherworldly Izakaya "Nobu") is both an excellent LN adaptation and cozy as all get out. It's a shame that Udon apparently dropped the series after vol. 10; I would love for them to continue with it.

My Next Life as a Villainess is indeed amazing.
Also, I want to give a shoutout to Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits, an excellent shoujo isekai that’s overlooked way too often, with a very likable MC and LIs.

My favorite isekai, is probably Vision of Escaflowne, it’s such a fantastic show, from when Isekai was targeted more at the female audience. Some runners up are Re:Creators, a fantastic reverse isekai where a bunch of novel, light novel, and anime characters get brought into the real world, Inuyasha Rumiko Takahashi’s classic action Shounen, and Fullmetal Alchemist Conqueror’s of Shamballa. Yes the finale to the 2003 FMA anime is an isekai.
