Guess they conveniently forgot the third game? Well, understandable, sometimes some things are better left buried. Smile

Definitely getting this, played the heck out of the originals, and also because I hear the new translation is more accurate. Not getting it physically though, my new PC doesn't even have a disc drive. I do have the old Game Arts Box stashed away somewhere, but I don't have the PS console anymore. The included guidebook to that was funny, especially the insert comic strip. Unfortunately the song CD that came with the box got disc rot early on.

Nice to see these 2 games are now joining the line of retro game getting HD re-release. And I just realized something, The Lunar franchise never had any anime adaptation (or tie-in), or manga tie-in, I wonder why this particular franchise never had any anime (except the cutscene) or manga product.

There are multiple Lunar manga and an anime short based on the Magic School spinoff.

Wait what? I never heard of this, could you show that or provide evidence to me?

I would hope you would have the capacity to google Lunar manga, it's literally the first result

Depending on how they run, it's either the Switch or Xbox version (or both) for me, physically.

Well, I did look around and yeah my thought on the manga is that I would like to see this getting an official English translation in the future and maybe in an omnibus if given an opportunity.

About the anime, yeah that one I don't think that's worth licensing given that it's just a 10 minute clip and not a 12-25 episodes long stuff like we in the fandom are used to. But, I still would like Lunar to be given a maybe a anime ONA if given an opportunity.

Awesome. I never did get to play the games. Can't wait to play these TWO games in the franchise. Too bad they stopped after TWO, right? Only TWO!

I'm really hoping there'll be a collector's edition with feelies. Lunar without them just feels wrong.

Magic School was good. It'd be nice to get an official translation of that one day.

I worry about censorship like a lot of older games get with these remasters but as long as the translation doesn't have Bill Clinton jokes and other nonsense then that would be nice. The PS1 versions already undid a lot of the awful changes Working Designs did to the gameplay in the initial Sega CD releases like spending Magic EXP to save. I do wish this had the original Sega CD versions of the game though

Are we sure Working Designs didn't have a hand in the supposed third part? Because in that you had to choose between getting exp, OR items, from battles. And you needed items from battles to advance. So 'fun' with the double the grind. And we can't forget you couldn't choose who to target, so if enemy had a healer and hella lot mooks, the player experience turned hella 'funny'. Smile

Working Designs was notorious for altering the games they worked on. Not just with their localization scripts but actual gameplay elements. Popful Mail, Alundra, Lunar, and otjers all had gameplay changes for their English release that usually boiled down to making the game harder and more difficult or frustrating. Lunar in particular required a lot more grinding than the Japanese version with the inflated enemy stats, item costs, and other things. This was a fairly common practice back in the day by many companies in general due to the rental industry not liking kids being able to rent and beat games in a weekend rather than buying them. The Playstation versions of Lunar still had some changes as well but I don't think they were as egregious as the Mega CD/Sega CD versions had.

There's actually romhacks called the "Un-worked Designs" versions of their games made by people who restore them to how they played in the original Japanese version.

Just saw a PR release on ANN, and just saw this:

Quote:
LUNAR Remastered Collection Key Features:

  • Strategic Turn-Based Action: Play through two magical worlds in LUNAR: Silver Star Story Complete and LUNAR 2: Eternal Blue Complete as you fight it out in turn-based battle style, where each character's speed, distance, position, and attack range must all be accounted for.
  • Powerful Voices and Captivating Animated Sequences: Immerse yourself in battles with fully-voiced attacks and incantations in either Japanese or an all-new English voiceover by playable characters and enemies. Not to mention, the stylistic animated sequences that still capture the hearts of players today.
  • Relive the Classic or Go Remastered: Choose between classic or remastered mode — an option that allows fans to travel back in time to the games' PS1 releases, or see them in a new light with wide-screen support, revamped PS1 pixel art, and high-definition animated cutscenes.
  • Two New Language Options: LUNAR Remastered Collection not only includes Japanese and English subtitles and sound, but also two new subtitle language options: French and German.
  • Speed up Battle + Improved Strategy Settings: Save time and speed through battles with the flip of a switch! Additionally, new options have been added to the original strategy settings for streamlined combat.

Regarding the part I color highlighted in orange, I take it this collection doesn't have the Sega CD version of both games just in case for any particular retro gamers that want to play that version out of curiosity or out of nostalgia. There are people that still grew up playing that version of both Silver Star and Eternal Blue, and yes I understand both Silver Star Story Complete & Eternal Blue Complete has more content not found in the original Sega CD version, but there are still fans out there that still want to play the Sega CD version not only out of nostalgia, but also because there are retro gamers that want to compare the Sega CD and the Playstation/Sega Saturn version. I mean if the TMNT: Cowabunga Collection can have multiple versions of the same game like Turtles in Time (arcade & SNES), and Tournament Fighters (SNES, NES, and Genesis/Mega Drive version are all included), then it should've been possible to have the SEGA CD version of both Silver Star & Eternal Blue included too.

I'll still buy it but I would've liked the original Sega CD version to have been included for comparison purpose.
