That's what I call cross-media synergy.

Prince Edward, Canada

"Island" after "Edward".

Do not confuse "Prince Edward Island" Canada with the "Prince Edward Islands" in the Southern Ocean when making vacation plans (unless sitting on a desolate piece of rock watching sea birds and marine mammals is your thing).

I'm SO EXCITED!!! I LOVE Anne of Green Gables, it's such an incredibly timeless story and meant a lot to me as a young girl. What lovely news.

Not surprised. I'm betting this is another way to promote the new 2025 anime. Still, this is great! I hope this comes to the US in some capacity, even though I personally prefer the Yumiko Igarashi manga version.

I was just wondering if this new adaptation is going to be shown outside of Japan, I mean, it's based on a world famous Canadian novel, it would make sense for it to be dubbed into English and French. To my knowledge, the 1979 World Masterpiece Theater adaptation handled by Isao Takahata wasn't dubbed into English, but I've heard it aired in French-speaking Canada, it did get dubbed into European Spanish, French, Italian and Arabic. I can see this new Anne of Green Gables adaptation being acquired by Netflix or Disney+

Actually, the 1979 anime did get an English dub that was commissioned in Africa with a primarily British staff and voice cast, albeit most of them are uncredited. It's up on YouTube in several different levels of quality.

I hope it will get a Canadian dub. It has to. There is no bigger THIS IS CANADA anime than Anne Of Green Gables.

As a Canadian I know it would be preferable to get Ocean Studios (the GOAT when it comes to English dubbing in Canada) but realistically it'll probably go to Ciné-Groupe J.P. in Quebec as they make both English & French dubs

As Firechick stated, it did receive a dub produced in South Africa sometime in the '80s. It was in total obscurity until its right holder dumped it onto YouTube a few years ago. The compilation film was released in Australia back in 2020.

It's never been confirmed, but it's not unlikely that other Anne of Green Gables movies and TV shows kept the anime from getting a foothold in most of the English-speaking world. The books weren't public domain until 30-40 years ago, so it's possible Sullivan Entertainment (who were producing live-action, and later, animated versions) had exclusive English adaptation rights when that original anime was being marketed internationally.

Even though the books are now all in the public domain, Lucy Maud Montgomery's estate has been known to try legal shakedowns on things that aren't paying them. I don't think they can do much here, though. The CBC/Netflix show from 2017 was produced without their involvement and this new anime seems specifically titled to avoid their trademark trolling.

I'm excited for this!

A really minor complaint though, Anne's eyes are green-gray not blue! It's one of her most defining features after the red hair and freckles. In other works it may not matter much, but a big part of Anne's character is that she was always a bit too self-aware, almost vain when it comes to her looks and always compares her own colors to that of others.
