Overall, this has been kind of an interesting week for Japanese video game sales, it's been quite a while since 4 PlayStation games have appeared on the top spots, though due to the PS5's price increase, it has done nothing in regards to hardware sales, the Switch's sales are stil unbelievable for an almost 8-year old console.
- I think Metaphor ReFantazio did okay, the combined PS5 and PS4 physical sales gives us 107,185 copies sold, that's better than Soul Hackers 2 51k on both the PS5 and PS4. Though just for comparison to other Atlus' games debut week sales, Persona 5 sold 264,793 on PS4 and 82,827 on PS3 back in 2016; P5 Royal sold 201,448 on PS4 and 45,998 on Switch; Shin Megami Tensei V sold 134,247; Persona 3 Reload sold 76,368 on PS5 and 40,024 on PS4; and SMT V Vengeance sold 31,888 on Switch, 18,610 on PS5 and 6,367. I think for a new IP, Metaphor did pretty good. I wonder if Atlus will give it an upgraded version in the future, maybe even a Switch 2 version, though looking at some of the uptaded rereleases' numbers, it seems only P5R was a huge success, however, I don't count P3R as a re-release, it's a full-fledge remake.
- Dragon Ball Sparking Zero are lower than I expected, though it think these days Dragon Ball makes more of its sales in international markets. However, back in the PS2 era DB Budokai tended to sell over 200k copies in their first weeks.
- Silent Hill 2's remake made it to the Top 3 and I've been seeing people saying its Japanese sales are too low, but Silent Hill is one of those series that are much more popular overseas, the original Silent Hill 2 did okay in Japan back in the day, but it is more of a cult classic. I've heard that actually, Japan gamers prefer the original Silent Hill on the PSOne.
