They also suggested Seven Deadly Sins, where the MC literally sexually assaults the main female character in the first chapter and continues to be an unrepentant pervert throughout the series. Do these people even have functioning brain cells?

I'm not sure how much more appropriate those are for kids in America since I know nothing about Sasaki and Miyano but at least they suggested some nice series. My school never had any manga at all in the library.

Yes. SDS is so awful about that. I tried watching the anime... I just couldn't keep going. It's so disgusting.
Anyway - If there's one thing I have learned about the Religious Right, it's that they have no problem excusing sexual assault. Their "morality" is twisted into knots. Not even recognizable as morality anymore. SMH. So, somehow this doesn't even surprise me.

School districts always pick the weirdest books to get offended over.
They were outraged at series like Harry Potter in my area as a kid, but completely overlooked things like Animorphs and Fear Street which had much more controversial subject matter.

Phantom Thief Jeanne too. Not only does it have lots of attempted rape scenes, more importantly the story actually calls out out the Christian God for casting Eve out of Eden, portraying him as a bitter vindictive jealous guy who was in the wrong, literally saying Eve was the one to eat the apple because "women have more fortitude" and she was totes right to do so... and in the climax the MC has underage premarital sex to prove that purity and religious devotion are in no way related to virginity or not having sex until after marriage. so actually that's a really good one. I think they should DEFINITELY go with that one.

I suspect they didn't read any of these manga and they just googled gay manga or something and Sasaki and Miyano was the first thing they found. They probably just saw the title for Chainsaw Man and thought he was some typical Marvel superhero.
