Damn..rest in peace. Also sad that we won't hear her voice in the upcoming ghost in the shell anime.

The news was devastating as heck to see - considering how prominent Tanaka-san was in seiyuu industry as the voice of many known characters in many popular works, and a lot of people surely wanted her to stay in for more years - and being there up to her last days, with nearly no one outside of the closest people knowing what she was truly fighting.
Rest in peace, the legendary bewitching voice. Rest in peace, Atsuko Tanaka. |

Ugh.. she was legendary as Major Kusanagi. I was also watching Frieren with my girlfriend this past weekend (she hasn't seen it all, yet), and hearing Tanaka as Flamme reminded me of how majestic a voice she had. spoiler[ It was the episode where Frieren reminisced about Flamme recruiting and training her, then asked Frieren to use the flower field spell around her eventual gravestone.] That scene hits especially hard, now. Rest in peace, Tanaka-sensei. You are and will always be one of the greatest seiyuu ever!
EDIT: Have to leave a video for Inner Universe, here. May Tanaka-sensei and Ms. Origa both rest in peace. Last edited by Tony K. on Tue Aug 20, 2024 4:57 pm; edited 2 times in total |

This...this is an utter gut punch. I just don't know how to process this.
She always had such a mature, commanding, and even sensual presence to her voice and imbued that so well into so many characters. RIP Atsuko Tanaka. Thank you for all the wonderful characters you brought to life. |

I genuinely didn’t realize how many awesome roles she had. What an impressive resume.

Ah damn, RIP and thank you for the many years voicing Motoko (among other great characters), she's a favorite and your voice was no small part of that.

An absolute legend, gone too soon. I'm very glad she got to voice Motoko one last time in GitS: SAC_2045, years after Arise introduced an all-new voice cast. May she rest in peace.

All rise for our Major! [salutes]
This one hurts. Sixty-one is still too young. I hope Tanaka-san's family, friends, and fans will be okay. |

…Shit.
Bayonetta, Lara Croft, Lisa Lisa, Kyrie Ushiromiya, Kainé, Alice in Virtue's Last Reward. And that's without getting into her very impressive resume in Hollywood dubs. She was never one I had that much direct experience with, but yeah, this one hurts. Last edited by Shay Guy on Tue Aug 20, 2024 9:55 am; edited 2 times in total |

Rest in peace.
It saddens me, she had an emblematic voice. And they recently announced season 2 of Wrong way to use healing magic, Rose is an important character in that show and hearing her was always fun... |

She had a huge presence in the gaming japanese dub too, with pretty notable roles such as Yennifer in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or Tess in The Last of Us (and she reprised that role in dubbing for HBO series). For Lara though she was the cast of OG games outside of the very first one - before Tomb Raider: Legend, where she got switched by Takako Honda until the reboot switched the voices yet again and the "current" Japanese voice of Lara is Yuko Kaida. |

Big loss. She had a perfect voice for roles that were fully adult and required a deeper female pitch. Respected her work from Motoko up through her most recent roles, and I'll especially not be able to look at her work as Flamme the same way, given that she would have been ill while recording those performances.
Will be interesting to see who they get to recast Rose and (for the inevitable Frieren continuation) Flamme. |
