Solid choice, I think. Probably smart to go for someone younger; who knows how much longer One Piece may last.

I hope the main cast stays until the end but I do wonder if some recast will need to happen in the future.

They will all be replaced.

OP isn't going anywhere.

"If I had a nickel for every time one of Sabo's voice actors turned out to be a gross sex pest and had to be replaced, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice."

I don't get your joke. Are you saying that Miyu Irino is also a gross sex pest? If so then why did they hire him to voice Sabo? Or are you saying that there was somebody before Toru Furuya who voiced Sabo who ended up one? Because that's how the joke works; It only works when it ACTUALLY happens twice. Not a probability that it'll have twice.

In short; Your joke sucks.

They mean his former English dub VA, Vic Mignogna. Not a huge stretch to infer that.

People who’ve played Sabo in the dub count too.

He's referring to the fact that the original English voice of Sabo was Vic Mignogna.

At least he never even voiced him in the main series, just a couple lines in a movie and a tv special. The dub didn't even reach Dressrosa until long after all that happened. I imagine this will be more of a shift for viewers but really interested to hear how he sounds!

Ah. That makes sense now. I only read the manga so I never watched any of the post time skip episodes of One Piece, let alone the English dub, due to the atrocious pacing. So I didn't know that Vic voiced Sabo. My bad. Sorry about that.

Excellent choice. I think that Miyu Irino is one of the best seiyuu and it's heavily underused by the industry. I remember that he went a couple of years abroad (thanks Osomatsu-san) but even then he is still not a mainstream VA.

They looked at the cast of Gundam 00 and just picked somebody else.

Sabo has the rare... "honor" that both his original English and JP VAs were weirdos who needed to be replaced.

I still wonder what will happen with Yamcha in the next Dragon Ball projects. He must be one of Furuya's most iconic roles, but given that he already stepped down from his role as Amuro in Conan (which is arguably more significant than Yamcha in the story), I'm pretty sure that there will be a recast too.
