From what I have seen, the remaining Game Informer staff didn't know this was coming, or at least not that it was going happen basically overnight. I've at least seen some comments that paid subscribers have to contact Game Stop for a refund on their subscription since they weren't contacted about it.

This is a shame, but it's also understandable considering that people don't need to rely on the magazines anymore.

The magazine, maybe, but they also closed the website too.

I'm going to miss getting Game Informer magazines in the mail since I'm an longtime subscriber around 15 years. They're always great to read and see previews of upcoming games for different home consoles and handhelds, not to mention a lengthy story on how certain AAA games are being made.

I'm surprised to hear people read Game Informer. It was always seen as the useless magazine Gamestop always tried to get you to buy with their member program every time you tried to buy a game. But then I haven't been inside a Gamestop since 2010 so I forgot it still existed until now.

Yes, I've heard about this a few days ago on social media (ie: Instagram, Twitter/X), and several Game Informer journalists have written on Twitter that they were caught off surprise and were shocked to hear GI being shut down. I've seen people anger toward Gamestop for shutting down GI.

But to be honest, we're living in an era of social media and we can get gaming news from other sources, so yes it's sad to see GI getting shut down, but we're living in an era with new technology and this was to be expected even though I don't approve of the way it came out of nowhere and leaving GI's journalists without any prior warnings.

If you had their rewards membership it came with the membership.

It's surprising there's still gaming magazines at all. Gaming websites have long been on the decline as YouTube and Twitch became more popular starting in the early 2010s and magazines themselves seem downright antiquated in today's age even if I loved reading them back in the 90s. Even gaming websites are starting to become redundant as more of them seem to be shutting down as more and more people shift to getting their news and editorials from people on YouTube and Twitch. I'm not sure what the numbers look like but I have to wonder just how many people read an article on a gaming website versus videos on similar gaming news that get millions of views. Magazines would no doubt have even less subscription numbers.

And only a few months after the Game Informer magazine subscription was separated from Game Stop rewards program:
