AMC must be wanting to make some cash by sub-licensing shows out to Hulu.

Is this an upcoming sign of an eventual Disney buyout?

No, Sentai has been licencing animes to Hulu for a few years now.

How does sub-licensing work? Do they simply extend the pre-existing license, or do they receive royalties from Kadokawa for sub-licensing?

I expected Shadow season 2 to be added eventually because season 1 was already there. But I was not sure if AMC was willing to let go of Oshi no Ko's exclusivity.

The anime on these sub license deals tend to come and go fairly often, aka they will leave eventually.

OnK s1 is a good timing, make people interested for s2 that is starting to air on hidive.

Bro Viz is owned by ShoPro Entertainment, a Japanese company, and Crunchyroll is owned by Sony.

John Ledford needs to pay the bills but also make profit for the bosses at AMC Networks which still are bleeding money (getting debt to paid their current debts, genius move), Sentai has already sub-licensed a lot of stuff to Netflix here in latin america, within the next batch they'll give us precisely oshi no ko, eminence in shadow and urusei yatsura part 2 among others.

Oh hey, I can finally watch Oshi no Ko! I was interested in it, but I didn't want to pay for another streaming service when I'm already paying for CR and Hulu. Now that it'll be on Hulu, I can watch it and see what the hype was all about.

Sentai has a had a channel on Hulu for forever so I'm not sure why people are thinking this is a new thing or that this is a sign HiDive is hurting. Anyway I'm glad to see Alita is finally streaming somewhere after it's been several years now.

exactly, now the possibility that hidive might be sold out to disney/sony is a legit thing.

damn, where's the golden age where hidive/crunchyroll/funimation worked together in vrv or whatever it was called
