I wonder what is going on with MVM, releasing Sentai titles was their bread and butter, yet it looks like AllTheAnime is going to be doing that from here on out. They only have 3 upcoming releases, and two of them are re-releases, and the only recent release was NieA_7. They also had a giant clearance sale, where it looks like the licences to a lot of titles they owned have expired. If they go under, that would just leave CR UK, which is just Funimation titles, and AllTheAnime. MVM got quite a few titles that fell through the cracks.

I've never quite understood how pivotal frequently releasing anime is to MVM's owners overall business model: ie. is it the bread & butter to a core number of staff or if it's more like a pre-Justin Sevakis buyout AnimEigo situation, where they have the luxury of falling back on other avenues during times of extreme market volatility? I know they're the last of the companies that still communicates regularly on the UK anime forums, and they've been open to delivering orders for the likes of Anime Limited in the past, but they also seem very private when it comes putting a face to their brand. Maybe that's just the result of a lack of marketing resources

One thing i can say is that they've historically seemed quite well equipt at laying low and riding out storms, so I'm really hoping they'll manage to weather this one. Of course, with a company this small & with a long enough history, I imagine all it would take is for the owner to decide to retire and it'll be finished.

Honestly, I'm nearly as worried about Anime Limited right now, seeing as they've gone from the dominant force in the market, to their tv output being primarily older, niche Sentai titles and attempting to sell them at collector's prices. A least with MVM you were normally getting smaller bare-bones titles at bare-bones prices, to fit the amount of people interested, so I can't imagine there being that much of an audience for £50-65 sets for the likes of Beautiful Bones, To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts or Kaiji. People barely paid attention to those shows back when they aired.

At least AL are still getting the odd current or perennial big seller that gives me hope they're doing ok, but how many Evangelion's can prop up the likes of Hula Fulla Dance or some similarly ignored movie or film?

Actually, the answer's probably a lot.

My guess is CR UK are playing a big role in that, before they did regularly pick up a fair few Funiamtion titles, none of which I can see them getting now, even future Gundam titles may be off the table.

They had the advantage early on of having a lot of well known Beez titles to pick up, like Cowboy Bebop and Gurren Lagann. Now that has run dry and far fewer big new titles to release, there are options are limited. Maybe they stick to mostly niche titles and older titles and hope enough diehard fans buy the collector's edition. At the very least, most of them have the selling point, that you can't stream them and home media is your only legal option.
