I have the first 3 volumes. It would have been 5, but no...Barnes and Noblehad to not have the 4th volume for like a month, and we didn't feel like driving all the way to Borders. Anyway I'm hooked on Chobits and I've got my best friend hooke on it. Besides Chi, Plum is my favorite character because she's just too cute.

I read all of Chobits in one night because I had nothing else to do, and when I finished I was like "Eh..." It certainly wasn't a waste of my time; the story was pretty good once it got going, and the art was just stunning (as with all things CLAMP). There are just other series I'd rather spend money on.
I also thought that the social commentary thing with the persocoms was more interesting than the actual story with Chi.

I think that the story of Chobits is awesome. Besides after reading 1 thing by CLAMP I would always skim through any other story by them and also the anime.

Oh, don't get me wrong; Chobits was a cute little series, and I'll read anything CLAMP. I just didn't think Chobits was as entertaining as some of their other titles, such as xxxHOLiC or Angelic Layer.

Seconded. I started reading Chobits due to my habit of reading titles that spawned an anime series. I found it a nice way to pass the time when I bought it. Also, compared it its anime counterpart, I felt that story-wise it was deeper and richer. In spite of all this, it just didn't have much of a re-read worthiness to me when finished it; this title was out of my collection within a year.

Same here. I read Chobits due to the fact that it was a CLAMP title, and people would talk about, so I decided what the heck. It was indeed a mature title for it's references, and sometimes hard to follow or concentrate on where the story was going and whether the characters were really in their environment or not. Chobits was okay, not bad, not good. And to be honest, not really something I think worth of keeping, so at some point it will probably go away.

I actually so far consider Chobits to be my favourite series CLAMP has done, although xxxHolic is definitely in a position to overthrow it (I've only read 3 volumes so far). While definitely it has some of the weakest characters (asides from maybe Hideki, who I think is fairly well-developed), the plot interests me enough that I manage to overlook that, which is odd because usually I need interesting characters to enjoy a series.
The one thing about Chobits I cannot stand is the anime however, I couldn't even finish it because I would sit and watch and feel my braincells dying.

I own 1-5 of the Chobits manga and have seen the anime. Both are good in their own sense and I can't really say which one I prefer more. I enjoyed it (as I enjoy all things CLAMP) but I agree that this isn't one of their best series. But if you like CLAMP then you will probably still enjoy this. As always the artwork is beautiful and Chi and Plum (or Sumomo) are adorable.

I really enjoyed the manga. I found the tv series to be a bit lacking compaired to the manga, though I think that for a lot of tv series based from mangas. Anyways, I found the manga to be a bit mature but very well done. I really enjoyed the character interactions and the almost coming of age story for Hideki (right name right?). It reminds me a lot of DearS, which is why I got DearS, but more dramatic and with less comedy. That's probably why I liked Chobits better. I felt it had a very good plot and they handled the character development and interactions very well. I know the base idea is nothing new, boy finds girl and comes of age. They handled it though very well and in such a way to where it wasn't boring. A well done manga. Still like X better from clamp though

I have a soft spot for Clamp, and in particular, Chobits and Suki. I feel like the original purpose of the manga got lost early on, but they wrapped it up well. A very, very enjoyable read. It's one of those mangas you read if you're feeling down and need a kick-start.
