Is it normal to screen English dubs of Ghibli films in Japan? Is this due to the Oscar win?

I agree with Fenrin. This is highly unusual to have the English version of any Studio Ghibli movie shown in Japan,and that includes this one. Is it because this one won an Oscar? Who knows? I hope someone tells us.

English dubs of Ghibli films have had screenings in Japan but it's usually been for airlines like the old Streamline dubs of Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky. And the English dubs have been available on various home video releases but this is unusual for a regular theater screening. This reminds me of the reverse happening in the US where they played the Japanese dub of the Mario movie for a super limited run in theaters here.
