This port announcement took me by surprise, Bandai-Namco, at least the Namco side of the company, hasn't supported the Switch that much, aside from helping in the development of some Nintendo titles like ARMS, Mario Kart 8 DX and Smash Ultimate. Seeing a major Namco title like AC7 on the Switch at least shows that Namco has some interest in the console, though I wish we could've seen other games like Tekken 7 or Soul Calibur VI on the console as well, but with Tekken 8 on the horizon, I think it's more possible for Tekken 8 to appear on Nintendo's next console.
I've saw some people saying why Namco bothered to port AC7 to the Switch, most of them citing the fact that the Switch's successor is probably going to be announced this year, but as with the NieR: Automata port from last year, I think most third-party developers still consider the Switch a viable system. Hope that Nintendo's next console will have more support from Namco and other third-parties, especially Capcom

If AC7 were a new title I’d see this point but this game is as of today in fact 5 years old.

The last Tekken game to show up on a Nintendo device was Tekken 3D I don’t think this one is showing up at least not on this version of the Switch. I guess NB has more scruples about making sub-par Switch ports than studios like Netherrealm Studios.

If Nintendo decides to actually put some strong hardware under the hood and not cheap out as they are want to do or do some other weird shit like what they did with the GameCube’s small discs.

I don’t know why not though with the Switch 2 likely using cartridges like the original….

Well, late ports on the Switch aren't uncommon, but I've been told that some of them tend to sell well enough, I mean, if it wasn't the case they wouldn't do it. While I think that double dipping a game in a weaker console doesn't make a lot of sense, even if the Switch has the portable factor, there's a lot of Switch users that do not own another console or have a powerful PC, so I think there's a potential audience on Nintendo for players to discover new games.

I think the WiiU version of Tag Tournament 2 was the last Tekken game that appeared on Nintendo harware. There's been some rumors that Namco tried to port Tekken 7 to the Switch, but they couldn't manage to do it. Still, that makes Kazuya Mishima the only third-party character in Smash Ultimate that hasn't got a single game on the the Switch.

I don't think Nintendo is going to make the Switch successor a graphical powerhouse, the Switch wasn't one when it came out and, unlike their competitors, Nintendo doesn't sell their consoles at a lost. I know that there's been some conflicting rumors, but the Switch 2 will probably have to be at least a bit more powerful than a PS4 Pro, which for a hybrid system with an affordable price point and good battery life I think is enough. They're not going to make something similar to a Steam Deck, those types of consoles are for enthusiasts, not the general public. The size of the game cards can be a problem though, considering how big game are getting, but I suppose some developers are going to compress those files.

I don’t doubt that it’s just that with as far as the industry has come is there any much a reason in the modern era for Nintendo to still be getting late ports of games? Or not at all because their systems can’t handle it?

True just an inferior version which they shouldn’t settle for because it’s “Nintendo” or simply because it’s portable. But I digress as I know much debate has been brought about over this particular topic.

I knew when I wrote that out I was forgetting that game.

I vaguely remember there being a bit of problem early on with the Switch due to it’s cartridges having not too much space for data on them and (I think) Nintendo planning to introduce cartridges with much larger spaces on them which I never really found out whatever happen there.

But one would hope that’s not a problem this time around.
