Kind of amazing that this seems to be the only development we’ve had on any of the Macross titles since their licensing announcements at AX 2021, right?

Yeah, but some gatekeepers are still saying it's normal it takes so much time, and that we need to be patient. So basically it's our fault being impatient since the April 2021 worldwide agreement and the lack of news since the same year AX
And I have to be twice patient, since I live in Europe where nothing has been announced so far, except the Macross Plus Blu-ray release which will be common. I believe that's why this one in particular takes its time, Anime Limited has to pick up every single language dubbings and subtitles that were made in the 90's.
Anyway, I'm not waiting anymore. Big West is clearly targeting English speaking territories and Asia in the first place, so RIP Europe and Latam. That's currently the only way to support Macross in the west, so I backed this Lovers Again kickstarter, despite it's my less favorite entry. But I won't buy it twice if they release it in 5 years in my country.

I backed it without a second thought. I've always liked the music and designs, and the story too, though I wish they'd had more money and running time to flesh out the ending.
BTW, I saw the movie "Roman Holiday" a couple years back, and realized that at least one scene in Macross II is a direct homage to it. (And that Gundam Unicorn also references it in another runaway princess's choice of pseudonym).

Macross takes time to cook, I guess. Anime Limited, handling the Macross Plus side of the deal, announced half a year ago that it's coming to BluRay in early 2024. As far as Macross 7 goes, who knows. Nozomi is now CrunchyRoll and they are silent on that. Someone might want to tap them on the shoulder.
But I put my $80+ for Macross 2, so I hope I don't have to wait too long to retire well aged DVD movie version.

I'm hoping they can confirm they'll do one English dub for it before the Kickstarter ends, if they do that I'll back it easily, I've been wanting to get into Macross but I prefer to watch anime dubbed

Really bizarre that they're starting with Macross II and not, well, any of the others. It's always been my understanding that it's the least-liked of the series (though it's certainly not my least-favorite Macross series).
Anyway, that stretch goal is pretty wild, huh? Mikimoto must be doing very well for himself if he can sell off a single piece of art for $100,000 USD.

The long delay honestly isn't surprising, and this isn't some "gatekeeping" point of view (which doesn't even make any sense, but whatever). It seems more & more likely that those initial license announcements were literally made ASAP, as in "the ink is barely dry" instantly, and none of the companies involved even knew when they'd start getting the materials to even work on them. Big West was just in such a massive rush to make these announcements so that people wouldn't keep waiting on when things would actually start happening after the agreement with Harmony Gold was publicly announced.
Anime Limited has since screened Macross Plus in some theaters, I believe, so stuff has happened over there, and now AnimEigo is doing the Macross II Kickstarter campaign. As for Nozomi's announcements, we all have to remember that not long after 7, Frontier, & Delta were announced for English release (like, seriously, I think it was only about a week or two later) Right Stuf announced the merger with Crunchyroll. Considering how much of a delay the Dirty Pair stuff has gone through since then I think it's fair to think that the Macross releases similarly suffered in that regard, due to the chaos of the Crunchyroll acquisition/merger.
In fact, considering that FUNimation/Crunchyroll itself never announced anything regarding Macross, only Robotech, I almost have to wonder if Big West honestly didn't even plan on working with them, if just so that Macross & Robotech can be as separated as possible... only for Crunchyroll to wind up with the entire TV side of Macross (they technically should also have SDF, via the Robotech license) shortly after the initial Nozomi announcement at AX. This is just mere & slightly wild speculation, of course, but I wouldn't be shocked if Big West feels a bit played with after all of that. They went through all that trouble to seemingly stay as far away from Harmony Gold with its Macross licenses... only to have all of its TV series now licensed by a company that also has the Robotech license. If that was my intention after finally being free to license Macross to whoever I wanted, I'd honestly be pissed that this happened.

I don't know who "they" is in this instance, since AnimEigo only licensed Macross II, while Anime Limited licensed Macross Plus & Nozomi (now Crunchyroll) licensed Macross 7, Frontier, & Delta (no one has officially announced Macross Zero, yet). AnimEigo is simply working on the title that it had licensed & just so happens to be the first to allow people to make pre-orders for a physical release, in essence.

I'm sort of surprised there were no soundtracks for any of the levels. Probably a rights issue? The battle theme when Metal Siren goes all out is incredible. Macross II is an enjoyable entry and has more of what I expect from Macross than a lot of entries probably. I'm waiting to see news on Macross Zero, as I always wanted to see that one.

This was my favorite Macross after the original. Plus is the only other one I ever really liked. Frontier, 7, and Delta were all to weird and leaned far to hard into the idol stuff. Every time I've mentioned this I get attacked with the whole "Macross is all about idols, blah, blah, blah."

They say that they can not guarantee that the dub will be included. Makes you wonder why they don't just add a stretch goal for a new dub.

Because doing a dub, even for a relatively short OVA series, is really expensive and time-consuming, not to mention it would likely make this release take even longer to come out. Animeigo is a small, independent company that's got few connections to the modern anime voice-over industry, and frankly I'd rather they just dedicate the money they're getting to refining their current plans rather than getting caught up in scope- and feature-creep like a lot of other kickstarters.

You're not alone. I've got issues to some degree with every sequel, but as a whole I'm not a fan of where the franchise has gone since Plus. Macross II feels more like the world of the original series to me than much of what came after, which I appreciate.

I'm sure he'll be well-paid, but it won't be nearly that much. $100,000 funding is the point where they say, "We can pay the licensing and production costs now, and still have enough left over to commission a piece from Mikimoto."

Really? 'Cause it sounds like you know exactly who they are -- the overseas licensors. You'd think the other should would be the more valuable IP, and thus a higher priority to get something, anything out there -- but it's been radio silence since the initial announcements from everyone but AE.
Surely I'm not alone in think this is kinda weird, right?

Indeed, I was being a little snarky there. The actual "cost" for the Mikimoto piece (which would presumably also included the printing costs) in the campaign is only $25,000... which is still an enormous amount of money for a single work, I think. Those printing costs would likely only be a small fraction of that, depending on how many backers they end up getting.
I would assume it's just an (very loose) estimate. Plenty of crowdfunding campaigns have gotten into trouble over-promising and then not being able to deliver.

Met it in a few hours too. Shows how starved the fandom is for…anything.

No, it's not weird at all... because that's how licensing works. Big West licensed its works to the respective parties, and after that it's all on the licensees (AE, AL, & Nozomi/CR) to do the work to get the titles they each licensed produced for English release.
And you seem to have ignored the entire rest of my post, which mentioned that Anime Limited has in fact done stuff with Macross Plus (& others have even mentioned that AL is hoping to get Plus out physically early next year, so they'll likely have it out before AnimEigo actually releases Macross II), while Nozomi had the whole Crunchyroll acquisition/merger announced almost immediately after its Macross announcements were first made, which would naturally throw a wrench of some sort into their plans.
Therefore, Big West has done its job (i.e. licensing Macross out to other companies), so now it's up to those companies to fulfill their side of the equation... and "they" are either actually working on stuff or have had more than reasonable hurdles thrown in front of them from the start. Again, like I stated before, it really does seem like Big West had those Macross announcements made as soon as the contracts were all signed, but no materials had actually been sent over, so it's not like Big West could have said "OK, start working on these titles before we even send anything over to you guys to actually do work with!", & BW most certainly can't currently say "Hey, stop working on titles you got from other companies & work on our stuff now!".
