I think the Toguros are the best cast. Not sure how I feel about Yankee Kuwabara though...

It’s shocking how good this looks…even if it seems like it might be skipping some content.

It looks good, but also a liiiiittle bit too serious. I hope the actual show retain some of the manga's goofiness.

Looks pretty good, and the effects look way better than I expected. It also looks like they might be doing the Dark Tournament, or at least a heavily modified and shortened version of the arc. I thought they were just doing it until the Yukina rescue but they've got shots of the characters on a boat, and the scene in the Keiko trailer looks like they're going to, or from, the island on which the Dark Tournament arc takes place.
Also, does anyone else have a problem with Kurama’s hair though? I don’t like it, which is weird because the other characters look fine. I mean Botan and Yukina’s hair looks fine and Genki’s hair is freaking amazing it looks like her real hair, so I don’t understand why they gave Kurama such a bad wig job. There are moments that it looks fine but the shot in the thumbnail and the shot of him in the hospital make it look so fake.

You can tell it’s the same effects studio as Godzilla vs Kong. Writing seems to be key because it looks like it will be moving a lot around.
Lady Snowblood herself, Meiko Kaji as Genkai is pretty top tier casting.

Not casting a kid as Koenma just doesn't seem right. They should have used his adult form as a "shocking reveal"
*Hard to tell from the videos if they're combining elements of the Dark Tournament with the Rescue Yukina arc or if they're going to do them separate.
**I've watched the trailers a few times and you can see Hanging Neck Island but I think they're just using it as a location for team yusuke to fight team toguro so I assume they're not going to use the Tournament part of the DT (just the setting, Sakyo, Team Toguro, Genkai's past, small parts like that). So if I had to guess: Yusuke dies, does the Hiei/Kurama thing, Yukina/initial Toguro fight, trains with Genkai, goes to HNI for final fight with Toguro

I don't know if anyone was really asking for a live-action Yu Yu Hakusho but this honestly doesn't look as bad as it could have.

I am still not seeing the vision and this is reminiscent of the Tokyo Ghoul films but the manga/anime were only a 6/10 for me. A dry run for better things. 3 seasons is all you can realistically get out of the manga and I assume that S1 would cap off with them leaving for the tournament but characters that first show up as match opponents are already confirmed. I guess it got scaled down, which it needs to be. The H.R. Giger Penis Dome better be in this though.
Chapter Black is confirmed to be Togashi´s commentary on the then-just-concluded JoJo Part 3 so I kinda want to see that in motion and with actors.

It LOOKS good, but goddamn...the more they show of it, the less it feels like YYH. Compare to One Piece, which was unashamedly One Piece, but this - like Bebop - feels like it's embarrassed of its source material.

Frankly, unlike One Piece and also unlike the Bebop adaptation, this looks like your typical live-action conversion, where they try to recreate manga/anime characters verbatim and unsurprisingly fail with the stranger-looking ones. Hard.
Those with more down-to-earth designs like Toguro, Yusuke or even Genkai look great, to me at least. But check out Botan: she doesn't look like an afterlife guide, but like your average Botan cosplayer, complete with a blue wig. And Hiei... good grief. The more I see, the less excited I am about this adaptation, despite liking Netflix's take on both One Piece and Cowboy Bebop previously.

While Netflix is providing (some) money for this, otherwise this movie doesn't really have any connection to Live-action One Piece or Bebop.
Personally, everything I've seen from this makes me expect something on the level of the live-action BLEACH movie from a few years ago. Some characters look fine, others look artificial and awkward. Effects look passable to goofy depending on the lighting. If the main performances are charming and the action scenes are done well, I could see this being a decent novelty to tack onto YYH franchise. Worst come, we get something like those lousy FMA live-action films that nobody talks about anymore.

You don’t always have to ask for something in order for that something to be given to you.

Maybe it’s me but even in the anime Botan wasn’t particularly unique appearance wise,

With the fact that fact that child actors tend to not be as effective as adult actors. And the fact that you would not feasibly be able to use a toddler (and yes I’m aware of the Look Whose Talking films) for such a production.
You can overlook this.

I mean given how the anime adaptation was done that wouldn’t be a new idea

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. Botan indeed doesn't have the most unique design ever. But (to me), there is a significant and vital difference, if one that can be hard to define, between an actor "being dressed up" as a certain character, and having a presence on screen where you can actually believe that they are said character. Simply trying to copy/paste their appearance from the original material rarely results in the latter, simply because manga/anime and live action are such different mediums.

It's just odd to me seeing late 20 to early 30 year olds play characters who were around 14. The villain's look good at least.
