Is this not what Manga Plus already was? I was under the impression it was more or less the same as the Shonen Jump app, aside from the two tiered pricing.

Nope. While there was a lot of overlap with titles, the two apps were significantly different in terms of what was available. With SJ, you ca read the first and last 3 chapters of everything for free, but need a sub to read everything inbetween. With Manga Plus, previously everything was free - but for most titles you could only read each chapter once. Until now there wasn't any pricing model. |

That overlap has hurt them; I don't see any reason for this unless a number Jump+ series hit it big and Viz doesn't grab them... which I guess is what Oshi no Ko is. But that is just one series.
On top of that, Viz has a good handful of legacy Jump stuff in their archive. The most glaring omissions to me, in terms of what is on Viz and not Manga Plus, are D.Gray-man, a currently running series, elDlive, a series that originated on Jump+(?!), and the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. Manga Plus has YGO! Arc-V only. Viz is already putting out a handful of Jump+ titles as well. The closest thing Manga Plus has to a name-recognizable exclusive is Oshi no Ko, even though Yen Press is releasing it physically. EDIT: I suppose there is one caveat that gives this an edge; the fact that it's not limited to North America. So that's good. |

Looks like my fears have been alleviated with this. I can continue reading what I have been reading on Manga Plus for free, however I can't continue reading completed series.

I'm still soured to app based services due to all the problems I've had and still have with the Viz Manga app. If they choose to allow access and account creation via PC I will gladly support it, but for now I'll have to pass.

Also, titles that were not on SJ usually could be read entirely for free (not just once per chapter in the middle). Now, many of those are locked off. But, it's better to have a fee that unlocks everything than unlocking things piecemeal, so I'm not that bothered by this. I have had years to keep up with things that I care about, so this doesn't really change anything for me (and the ads are not intrusive enough to make me want to pay them away). |

Feels like the main big thing about this is that it is not limited to North America. I also appreciate how this isn't going the K Manga route and all the changes even for longtime users are reasonable. Yet, the one thing I can give K Manga over MangaPlus and a few other services is complete access on desktop web browser. If MangaPlus adds complete desktop functionality with this sub plan in someway, I will sub.

At least it´s international. In other MP news, Kagura Bachi just entered the Big 3 on the site with all of 3 chapters to its name. Biggest thing to happen on that site in ages. Or ever?

Japan and nearby countries are almost always an exception to having no regional restrictions because they have options within the country (which also tend to be region locked themselves). |

Manga Plus is basically an international version of the Japanese Shonen Jump+ service. They have everything available there already so they don't really need Manga Plus. |

That makes sense, though I guess I was mostly thinking of people outside of Japan who want to read in Japanese. Not much of a region unlock for those folks.

This is not true, several series did not launch in English,, most recently, the Fire Emblem Engage manga and Uma Musume Pretty Derby Star Blossom manga. |

Yeah, "all new manga" does not include any licensed titles. Which makes sense; it would take significantly more effort and money to do the additional licensing in all of the countries where Nintendo and the owners of Uma Musume already do business. |

Also, "indie"/"rookie" titles (without an editor/direct supervision by Shueisha) are not included in the deal unless they become a big hit and they got properly signed in Jump+. Examples: Kindergarten WARS or Red Cat Ramen.
Also, Manga Plus "Classic" still works fine if you just want to read your weekly chapters and forget it. What baffles me is that is the price: $1.99 in the US but 2,19€ in Europe ($2.30),
