Has a real life person ever graced the cover of SJ or is this a first?

I can't believe I'm saying this but I kinda liked what I saw in the second trailer. Depending on ANN's review I might just subscribe to Netflix for it.

It has happened more than a few times.

This is gonna be a weird part of history if the show ends up sucking. If it does...I'm confident that EVERYONE will quietly pretend the LA show doesn't exist ASAP. I hope I'm wrong!

I do wonder how the people defending the show before its release by over-hyping Oda's involvement (which is DEFINITELY not a tactic Netflix has done before Rolling Eyes ) will react in that case?

Given the high production costs and Netflix's penchant for canceling their series, good or bad the show most likely won't have a long shelf life either way. At worst, it'll be treated as an advertisement to sell more copies of the manga like most other average anime adaptations.

The fact that they are pumping so much money into this means they are unlikely to cancel it unless it flops and fails to find an audience.

But yeah i agree this is mostly to promote the series to a wider audience outside of the anime/manga crowd. If they plan to do more than 1 season I have no clue how far they could go given that adapting the entire thing would be impossible.

Shows have been canceled for being too expensive to produce.

Too big to fail isn’t really a thing in Film & Television.

I hope you're right. Let them experience this as one of the biggest colossal failures and mis-marketed projects of all time. The amount of eggs they put in this single basket is insane. Honestly, even if it is 'good' I can't see how this can be successful enough to justify everything they've done for it. This would have to be Stranger Things levels of success to justify the budget, merchandise, and everything they've done.

Any more than the various axed series that have got the cover spot? Well, maybe a bit, yeah.

Yes, since the beginning.

And from '78 to '97 the authors themselves appeared annually (every #6 issue of the year).

Yeah this is pretty funny. One Piece fanboys are acting like Oda has directing experience. Like just because the original creator is involved, doesn't mean it's suddenly going to turn out good.

Of what?

Not every actor will come to hate a production they were involved in or a character they played.
