Most of the original Japanese background music has been removed and rescored by Ed Goldfarb.

As is tradition. Don't get me wrong while I like some of the re-scored music much like the old DBZ, there are some great (maybe even more) background music from the original score. A mix of both is the best I could hope for like what Team Four Star did for DBZA. The Japanese XY/Z opening is still my favorite of all pokemon themes.

Or, you know, they could treat it like every other anime made in the past two decades and not feel the need to "Americanize it" by ripping out the score for no good reason.

TPCI is too cheap to pay royalties to use the original score so they rescore the show so other countries can pay them royalties for using THEIR music.

This! I know older Americans grew up with different music in shows like DBZ, Pokemon and etc but it's time to let go of it. I don't begrudge a dubbing company for being cheap since it's part and parcel with them but older fans need to stop enabling it and learn to break out of their comfort space.

That was the reason 4Kids swapped the music, but it’s not clear why TPC does it now. They own the Japanese music too. It almost seems like they do it purely out of tradition now, or because the dub production team doesn’t want to put their composers out of a job and no one is forcing it for budget reasons.

We know this is why TPCi (not TPCーthey are different companies) does it, because other global localization companies still have to license the music and other content through them. Also, 4Kids didn't do it except for when replacing vocal themes, for obvious reasons. TPCi only started replacing music drastically with the start of XY.

As far as I know, Pokemon was the only 4Kids license that didn't completely remove the original score - though they would replace certain tracks or fill in quiet spots with their own tracks whenever they felt like it. It's a bit of an anomaly of that era even.
