I got to watch the first episode in a panel at AnimeNYC and I gotta say it was a good first episode really can’t wait to see the rest of this.

So the character I was hoping would be Milly turns out not to be. Still, looks good, I didn't even think about it being CGI while I was watching.

I've made my peace with this being its own thing at this point, and I must say as a CGI hater I'm really pleasantly surprised at how expressive the characters are. I hope it does well so that we get more Trigun stuff in the future.
That said... yeah the OP is godawful. I could make Defoko sing with more enthusiasm than that.

It's definitely very expressive and fluid as far as the animation goes, but I just really dislike the redesigns.

I still don't really understand what this is... Is it sort of like Dirty Pair Flash? Like a re-imagining of the same broad strokes setup as Trigun, but with a totally different version of the world and characters?

The comparison to Flash is actually really on point. I'd say its in line with that idea and similar adaptions (all the various re-interpretations of classic IP ie Dirty Pair, Cutie Honey, Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, etc) and less of a straight adaption of the original narrative although key and important events will still remain intact.

Looks great, and loved the original so one of my most anticipated of the season.

Same, I'm probably going to break down and check out the first ep sub so I can at least get a first taste of this, but then unless it looks like it'll be a long wait I'll probably be waiting for the dub so I hope it's not too far behind, hopefully just a couple of weeks.

You know what? I think you both nailed it exactly. DP Flash seems a perfect analogy, russ. Especially with the super different character designs that are still reminiscent of the old ones.
