I assume this means they're taking part in Star Wars Visions Season 2, very exciting

They did not specify what would be, but I never thought that Ghibli would collaborate on a project related to Lucasfilm, if we're talking about Star Wars it'll probably be a short for Visions's next season. Still, I have to wonder what do they have in mind, don't think Miyazaki is going to be involved but it'll be interesting. Speaking about Star Wars and Ghibli, I remember some artists mentioned that Ahsoka Tano's facial markings were inspired by those of San from Princess Monoke, and Rey's introductory scene in the Force Awakens was inspired by the first scene with Nausicaa from Valley of the Wind. So I think Ghibli is studio well suited for a Star Wars project.
However I'd like to see a Star Wars anime project inspired by mecha anime (something like Gundam or Macross), especially if it's animated by Sunrise or directed by someone with tons of experience in the mecha genre. Like that Tie-Fighter fan-animation but official. |

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. I didn't think Studio Ghibli would ever collaborate with Lucasfilm, but it looks like that could be it. Last year I wrote this about Star Wars: Vision, and possible studio that could get involved. I ranked Studio Ghibli highly unlikely to worked with Disney on Star Wars anime:
So looks like my prediction of Studio Ghibli getting involved with Star Wars: Visions had just went up if it's confirmed by Disney/Lucasfilm and Studio Ghibli themselves. So if Studio Ghibli is getting involved in Star Wars: Vision, then what other studio(s) from Japan did Disney/Lucasfilm also got this time for season 2? Here's my prediction (& I hope they come true): Sunrise Studio Wit Studio MAPPA Orange UFOtable Bones If Disney/Lucasfilm are able to get Studio Ghibli involved like that, then I have to assume the studio I listed and predicted above could become a big possibility for Star Wars: Vision season 2 (& maybe a future season 3). Given Twitter's current state, I honestly would have thought that too if I hadn't been following that account since it was first revealed almost two years ago. It's mostly just nature photography and promotion for Ghibli Park and Suzuki's radio shows, so too boring to be a fake. (Their social media person is a pretty good photographer, though.) |

I won't be surprised if they get Goro Miyazaki to do a CGI short for Star Wars Vision which I would be fine with but a lot of people are probably setting themselves up for disappointment hyping this up that it's going to be like one of their bigger name movies or something.
